He just had "it". I remember watching the games with my dad and yelling go, go go every time he touched the ball. It was love at first carry.

I 1st became a Cowboys fan because of Bob Lilly as the years have gone on I continue to be a fan because of the rich tradition of the Cowboys. Both in winning and losing the Cowboys have played in some of the greatest games in NFL history and have been a big part of the success of the NFL in general. Lastly I'm proud to say I'm as big of a Cowboy fan today as I was when I 1st became a fan of the Cowboys, win or lose I stick with my team

I think it all starts with the helmet, which is to say "the star."

I agree.

I guess we were all "star-struck" when we were youngsters, but I can specifically remember seeing them in an exhibition game on TV around 1970 and seeing those helmets under the lights and feeling a rush.

Roger Staubach, and unbelievably in a strange way, the two defeats againts the Steelers in the super bowls. I guess I am a "gluton for punishment". Honorable mention to the win against the Commanders with the bomb by Clint Longley.

Then Roger and Clint got into a big fist fight and Clint was gone. :laugh2:

Yeah, talk about a strange turn o events...

I do remember the Longley game well, I was at the game and an uncle of mine who loved giving me a hard time about the Cowboys was with us and kept saying let’s leave this game it is over no way Dallas is going to win and of course I was not going to budge and kept insisting the Cowboys could come back. Thank God they did.laugh2:

Pride.

The pride of being associated with a franchise which struggled to become the best, became the best, and its continual, unending mission to become the best again.

That's what I love most about the Dallas Cowboys.

You did not rub it in your uncle´s face, did you?

Of course I did but he is one of those people who is not a big fan of anyone he just likes giving others a hard time. I think people around here would call that being a troll. :laugh2:

My uncle has gone to sporting events wearing the home team’s jersey and the opponent’s jersey under that just so he can claim to have been on the winning side. :laugh2:

As a child.

Their stadium, their colors, it gave three generations of men in my family an opportunity to watch and cheer for 3 great Super Bowls before my grandfather passed.

As an adult.

The jealousy/hatred we receive on a daily basis, and the fact that no one can call us bandwagon fans anymore.

Staying the weekend with my Uncle an Aunt.

He was a big sports fan. Baseball and Football being his main passions.

We are watching the Cowboys and he says...How will they ever replace Mr Cowboy Bob Lilly. But then he goes on about drafting Randy White aka the Manster.

The cowboys uniforms, the helmets with the stars and the cool names like Mr Cowboy and The Manster.

That pretty much sealed the deal for me as a young boy.

Easy, the teams of the 70's. That decade more than any other responsible for making NFL what it is today. One more thing if Staubach starts that Superbowl against the Colts 71, Dallas would be the first team with six Lombardi's.

Cowboys symbolize something to me. I actually wrote some words for a song and I sent them to Juke who is one heck of a songwriter and is winning awards and even has a chance to sell some of his stuff to major artists and labels. Maybe it will be good, maybe it won't but the words expressed something to me about why I love this team.

When we were little boys most of us played Cowboys and Indians. I don't know about your neighborhoods but where I was from no one wanted to be the Indians.

I just don't remember as a kid pretending to be a bird (Cardinals, Falcons, Seahawks, Ravens, & Eagles) or a cat (Jaguars, Bengals, Panthers, & Lions) or any other animals either (Colts, Broncos, & Bears). I don't remember pretending to be a Viking or a Giant or working in a Steel mill or a sausage packing plant. Now and then maybe some kids pretended to be pirates (Raiders & Buccaneers) but that was rare.

Was there anything better than those cap pistols with the rolls of red caps and shooting them so we could hear the pop and see the smoke? The star on your play vest meant something to you.

Not much has changed. The star still means something.

I admire Cowboys. I grew up around them. Guys who will work all day and then dance all night and who still take their hats off indoors and teat a lady like a lady. I like western movies more than any other genre. I like country music because it isn't afraid to be about human foibles and sometimes about hope in something greater than misery. It isn't for everybody, but it symbolizes something to me.

The Dallas Cowboys honor the American Cowboy. A dying breed of man who was exactly that, a man. To me there's nothing grander than a man whose handshake is his bond. That's a Cowboy. A man who will work for a food and a bed just to have a roof over his head in winter.

It symbolizes something bigger than just the game which I love so much. That star is real. I am drawn to it. I will be 'til the day I take a dirt nap. That's the way I want it.

For me the Cowboys are the team whose history represents the ability to "comeback" more than any other team. That's what the star stands for for me: "outstanding execution" under pressure resulting in victories that noone believes possible.
