What do you think about if the rookie RB we draft is the starter. MB3 has been very good for us in the second half and has been decent on short yardage and goaline situation does he need to be the starter next year?

we've done it before. : ) i would think it will sort out in camp despite who gets drafted where.

i see in no order:

barber
draft
FA/thompson or something.

we know what we have in barber and that's a hell of a #2 back who can spell at #1. we *hope* he can do more but has not yet. till he does i agree with what jones is doing in that he won't pay him starter money till he proves he can be a starter.

so far so good in the off-season.

I've got no issues with that. However our pro bowl RB might not be too happy with it.

Our pro bowl player screwed up the 2nd half of the playoffs so if he has a problem with it they should just show him his second half stats. See sig for details.

Well we should go in wit the mindset of drafting a starter and let Marion be the change of pace... We do not need to draft to compliment marion but draft a back who marion can compliment.

I agree that Dallas should draft a RB who they feel is the best at the spot we select however Barber is the starter and until or unless another player shows he should become the starter I don't see any roles changing. Barber is a very good back and earned what he has gotten thus far, no one handed him a thing and I would expect anyone to take Barber job will have to show themselfs as the better player.

Why are so many ppl so quick to find another back to start for Barber and put him back to coming off the bench. Let the man go through a whole season of starting before we throw these scenerios in. I hate how everyone says he cant be an every down back cause NO ONE knows that for sure till he does it and shows other wise.

I agree. I think Barber will try and use this off-season to prepair himself for the bigger role that he may be facing. I do think that the Cowboys will draft a RB in this draft within day 1 of the draft but I think the starting job right now belongs to Barber until someone else shows they are the better option. I don't expect Barber to back down from any challenge.

I think it would be downright silly.

Barber has earned the right to start, let the man play.

Absolutely. Maybe because he wasn't a first round pick, no one seems to want to see what he can do with 20 carries a game over a season.

It also helps that DaBoys4Life has a man crush on Chris Johnson, which is probably what led to the thread in the first place.

Barber hasn't been given an extension yet.

He has been tendered which prevents him from going any wheres unless someone is willing to give up a 1st and 3rd for him it also comes with a price tag so that if a long term deal is not hammered out he will still be paid a very good contract for next season.

Frankly I really think the Cowboys must draft the best RB we can and team him with MBIII. Biggest concern is we draft a 2nd rate RB who can't carry the load if MBIII gets hurt and shows he can't handle 20 carries per game, every game.

My preference is to use our first 2 rounders on a CB & a WR, but then we can only hope our RB options in the 2nd or 3rd round can be quality starting backs if needed.

I think if that is the direction the Cowboys go that this draft is deep enough at RB that we could still get an exceptional RB. Myself I would love to see Jamal Charles selected in the 2nd rd by Dallas. Since I think the likelyhood of charles being drafted in the early part of the 2nd rd I would think Dallas would need to make a deal to move up in the 2nd.

Me too. I want Charles if we don't land one of the big 3. I like Rice also.

Wouldn't it be great if we could get both.

Barber - Rice - Charles. Man what a backfield.

Personally I think it's time to toss the traditional RB/FB or Singleback backfield, and it's time to consider a full time 2 back system. McFadden AND Barber, all the time, full time. As much as Witten motions and also drops into the backfield, do we really need that FB? Barber and McFadden would be a terrorization on the league. This way-that way-right up the gut-down the sideline.

I wouldn't mind as long it was the right guy. Mendenhall, Stewart or Rice would be good fits. DMC of course but not happening.

We could go in with that mindset but who would you draft to start over MBIII?
