The days of having to win in spite of Garrett are over.
The days of getting absolutely nothing from the most important position on the team are over.
The Cowboys just stepped back into the NFL.

I have to say I agree with all of that but at the same time feel they could have done much better.

Positives of this hire:

• He is an accomplished coach with skins on the wall
• He is good with developing young QBs
• He is a tough guy with potential to make this culture tougher.
• He is a good play caller.
• Uses analytics well

Possible Negatives

• Can rub people the wrong way over time.
• Didn’t usually have great defenses
• History says it’s very difficult for a coach to win a SB in two different organizations.

But he deserves a chance to show what he can do.

Could have been better, but definitely could have been much worse. I would give this a 7 out of 10. With Bellicheck or Payton being a 10.

I'm good with it. He's a good coach and should be an upgrade.

I am excited to have a coach who has won it all leading the squad. I'll be more comfortable with this move if we stay the course on improving the defense this offseason, while adding a solid DC to the staff.

I wanted the Cowboys to fire Garrett and hire McCarthy as soon as the Packers let him go.
I never wanted Garrett hired to begin with, but the Cowboys needed this hire to re-establish NFL caliber leadership and play.
The Cowboys are fortunate that McCarthy was still available.

He's not my first choice, or second or even third. But he's an experienced NFL head coach with a Super Bowl on his resume, so I guess we could have done worse.

At this point, I'll sit back and see exactly what kind of a staff he puts together and see if I feel better or worse about things after that.

But it sticks with me that he was the one coach in the league who's team did far better the one year after they replaced him. That speaks volumes for me and having doubts.

I think that's unfair.

McCarthy may not be The Hoodie, but he's accomplished far more than Garrett.

With an elite QB. Without an elite QB what has he done? Terrible hire but way better than JG. That isn't saying much though.
