This is no secret to those of you who are familiar with me ...I've always Been a big fan of Bill (the Tuna) Parcells. That said, what does the new Cowboy's coach (WP) have in common with the former all-time HOF quality Cowboy's Coach (BP)?

If anything! ESPN says that neither have won a playoff game at Dallas (I wouldn't know that, but I'm sure some of you know the answer to that).

Is WP really on the bubble to produce a successful game? If he doesn't, could he have a short tenure at Dallas ...especially with BC lurking to return to coaching after a one-year hiatus from the Steelers.

I'll let admit this right now ...Bill Cowher as HC for the Dallas Cowboys is a very, very frightening thought. That said, would a bad year in 2007 open the doors to a sleeping dynasty?

You are right.

Parcells has never won a playoff game in Dallas.

Went to the playoffs twice, but came away empty handed both times.

If Wades defense is not successful and the offense is very suceesful then Garrett will be HC in 3 years. I don't see Cowher in the future here.

I think Wade has at least 2 years.

The odds of the Chin coming to Big D are rather slim. It depends on several things:
  • is Cowher lying when he says he wants to be close to his family, which implies Carolina is a more likely destination?
  • is Cowher really a silver bullet at all, after so many years spent getting just one trophy in the steel city?
  • would some other eastern conference club like Washington or Cleveland be a more palatable destination for the Chin?
  • has Jerra learned anything from the Tuna, as in how to stay out of the way of football people, or is he itching to be front and center, and trigger-happy?
  • is the lure of coaching the Cowboys and Jones' money really as overwhelming as some people make it out to be?
The usual suspects will line up along familiar lines to argue these and many more points.

For my part, I think Cowher stays east somewhere, and Phillips has at least 2-3 seasons to show his stuff. The new stadium is the trigger point.

Let the mayhem begin...

As others have said they are older and heavy.:D

Cowher may be tabbed if Wade does not work out but many feel Jerry is hoping Jason Garrett pans out and feel that he is being groomed to take over as the next head coach.

That is all speculation but that is how many feel.

I think the odds of Cowher coming here after one year of Wade is next to zero.

I also think that such a move would be an utter disaster. Cowher is a very good coach, although somewhat overrated. But he's also a very strong personality who would likely come in a blow up the team. This would set us back 4 years again. We need to decide of a path (as we have with Wade/Garrett) and see it through.

We did that with BP and it made us a better team. All in all, not nearly as successful as we'd hoped, but it pointed us in the right direction.

Constant coaching turnover is a simple recipe for failure.

Cowher will be waiting to see what happens in Carolina first IMO

I understand what you're saying, but why Garrett; and why not Cowher? Are you saying that Cowher is overrated, Cowher wouldn't be interested, or would the pricetag be too high?

I think he is saying it looks like Garrett is being groomed for the job.

And I think most people agree with that.

Thanks BrAinPaiNt

I didn't even hear anything about Jason Garrett being on the radar screen. But if that's the case, why even go through the effort of bringing-in Wade Phillips; why not go with Garrett (just thinking out loud ...I guess it's too late for any of that at this point). We'll all see what happens after the 2007 regular season.

Side question: Something that I've always wondered all these years ...why is the "B," the "A," the "O" the P," and the "N" in "BrAinPaiNt" (whom I respect highly, capitalized?

Because it will confirm what Jerry thought (if the offense is successful that is)
which was that Garrett very well could be ready for the head coaching job, which I think he very well may have gotten this time if Jerry could have found the ideal guy for DC.

I just think Wade, from Jerry's perspective offered the very best scenario, great 3-4 guy and one that would be good with Garrett being groomed right in front of him.

Defense and offense solved while prepping Garrett for the future.
