What does it mean when your car heater doesn't blow AT ALL?

preach it. been a beautiful week here

With the amazing weather we're having it's hard to relate to the sub zero temps some are going through in other parts of the country. I haven't stepped foot in snow in over 10 years.

The great thing about Southern Ca is you can go from 85 degrees to a knee deep in snow in the mountains in about an hour and a half.

I do. Have used it ~10days in 3 1/2 years. Every once in a while I run a fan. I think I live 5-10 miles over the hill from KJJ (Malibu) so I think so my micro climate is a little more "volatile" Those beach guys likely NEVER run anything. Houses I looked at in San Pedro, Redondo and Playa Del Rey didnt have HVAC.

You get 20-40 miles from the water though and things change fast.

That's my birthday goal in February - Ski Big Bear in the morning, go surfing at Zuma in the afternoon. But I hear you, you get so accustomed to 70-80 and sun that you forget sometimes that winter is a real thing. I went to TN for Xmas and it was 30s and raining everyday, I just felt it was so "uncivilized" like why do people live in these conditions :)

But then I get back here and the grocery store plastic bag ban reminded me how petty this state is in other areas.

I have central air/heat but never have to use the air. I use the heat at night because it does get chilly our average lows are 44-48 degrees during the winter months.

I have a friend who lives in Pasadena which is about 42 miles inland from me and one summer during a heatwave it reached 106 in Pasadena and only 78 in Malibu. The plastic bag ban is pretty ridiculous forcing everyone to bring their own bags to shop for grocery's or they'll charge you extra for paper. Long gone are the days when the checker would ask paper or plastic?

I've been living in Southern Ca since 1980 and not once have I ever had to use my cars heater.

That's great that you like that.

Different strokes though, ... I love living where we have all four seasons, .. absolutely love it!

-sitting by the fire watching it snow in the winter, .. making the first tracks in the snow after a snowstorm
-that first motorcycle ride in the spring, .. seeing the trees turn green and flowers blooming
-coaching youth baseball in the hot summer months, .. the pool, the lake, the beach
-going to cool weather football games in the fall, .. switching my lawn mower/tractor into a winter snow plow

I love traveling and visiting all other places, .. but I always miss the mountains, and would miss not having all four seasons.

Many people like the seasonal changes there's not a huge change between summer and winter here which is fine with me. It was in the mid 80's in the LA area on Christmas and a couple of weeks earlier some area's were over 90 degrees. I love beautiful sunny, dry warm weather always have. I can sail and play golf year round and rarely do I ever catch a cold. I grew up in the Texas Hillcountry where it got cold during the winter but nothing like what some parts of the country get. We got snow maybe once every 6 years or so.

Snow was so rare it was exciting waking up in the morning and looking out the window and seeing snow on the ground and flakes coming down but I would never want to live in an area where you have to deal with snow all winter and sub freezing temps. Some of these below zero temps people were going through just the other day I want no part of. Being stuck at home having to shovel snow to pull out of your driveway doesn't sound like a fun way of life.

A lot of times, the Thermostat is not broken, it just needs to be flushed. It builds sediment and it will just stop working. If you flush it out, a lot of times, that will fix the problem. Saves you from having to replace it but Mechanics won't always tell you that. It's better for them to replace them.

It would probably be better for them to charge their labor rate to take the time to clean it. Unless they started making them out of titanium since I last bought one they are very inexpensive.

I did used to clean the old one and put in on the shelf in case I needed to swap it out again later. Of course there was no later with the heaps I was driving back then.

I agree but the way a shop looks at it, in order to replace, you have to remove a bunch of stuff and it actually takes more time for that. They make more money by replacing then they do just flushing it out well. That's what drives it I think. IDK.

I have a crew working in San Diego now. They've been working there for exactly a year. A couple of the guys are so ready to leave because they HATE the "sameness" of the weather. They miss the different seasons as you describe. One of the guys begged me to send him to one of my projects in Ohio so he can get the feeling of Winter again.

I know when I was younger I would have laughed at you for wanting different seasons, but as I've gotten older I've really enjoyed the Winter season (as much as it is in Charleston, SC). I love starting a fire in the fireplace, opening up a beer, and listening to my favorite music or watching a movie on my TV. I don't enjoy doing that nearly as much during the Summer (except the opening of the beer).

I'll go work for free in SD for ya anytime ya want :)

The reason I liked SF better then Southern Cali is for the different winter weather. It still got cold, can enjoy a fire while all of this at any point in the year. Heck, even mid-summer it can get down right cold and be back in the 60's the following day.

I like the seasons as well but will trade them for a California climate every day of the week!

Try Scotland for 4 seasons. Spring and autumn we get rain, winter it's cold, gets dark early and rains. Summer we get long days, temp in the 70-80 range on a good day with a 50/50 chance of rain.

I think in most places in Europe you also have to bring your own bags. They're kicking that debate around here in San Antonio now.

It is weird how the temp is pretty drastic in the LA area. A 60 mile radius can have extremes of 40ish to 90ish sometimes. Malibu was always on the chilly side to me, even in the summer but love it out there.

Go to Big Bear in the Summer, it is worth a day trip just to explore. There is a BBQ joint up top and the owners are from Texas. It was the closest thing to real BBQ that we found in California.

Should have read 60-70 not 70-80 though this summer we did get in to the 80s which prompted weather warnings due to the "extreme" heat wave.

Yeah the one negative about Malibu's weather is it can be on the chilly side during parts of the summer. When it's in the mid to upper 80's and sunny throughout most of the LA basin it can be 68 degrees and overcast in Malibu.
