So if a team doenst sell out, you cant see them on TV? Man thats some BS

Actually, it's just basic good business... if having a TV broadcast available in your home market is keeping folks from actually going to the games, resulting in no sellout, then there will be no TV broadcast available... this encourages people to plunk down their money for tickets...

You do know the NFL is in business to turn a profit, don't you?? :D

Hello silverbear, I am fairly new to this board and getting very comfortable here. It appears a good number of Ranchers have flocked to the cowboyzone. Is it me or has the Ranch lost some of its character and luster? It seems like there is a mini-exodus going on.

I agree with you in general about invoking the blackout rule but sometimes it is heavy handed against fans supporting smaller market teams. Jacksonville is a good example of this. With a large relatively new stadium it can get tough to fill 70,000 plus seats. Even in the bigger football team markets businesses come to the rescue at times by buying up large numbers of seats.

What are your thoughts?

It's a nice theory.

But with $50 being the basic minimum for an NFL game per a person, plus $10 for parking....it gets so damn expensive. Especially for a venue as horribly uncomfortable and inconvenient as Texas Stadium.

I'm sure I'll do my 1 game this year, but that's it for me. I love the legend of Texas Stadium, but I freaking hate going to it.

What? You mean you are going to tell me that parking in a gravel and dirt field at $10 a pop (not to mention the additional "fee" that Arlington approved) and having to hike the 2 miles to Texas Stadium doesn't send chills up and down your spine?

What sends chills up my spine is being stuck in traffic on Loop 12 nearly an hour before kickoff, finally getting to park in Finland, walking 15-20 more minutes, purchasing a beverage, and sitting down with 7 minutes already gone off the clock. :banghead:

Moral of the story...if you want to see an entire Cowboys game and don't have the premium parking package, plan on arriving 2 hours before kickoff.

If you're going to to go a game, best bet is to always get there 3 hours early and do some tailgating. You avoid traffic, get nice and sloshed without the $7 beers, and get some cheap food in your stomach.

It sucks, however, if you do this and there's a burn ban (as happened to me last year). Ended up spending 3 hours drinking cheap beer on an empty stomach before making the 2 mile hike to the stadium.

Don't ask me to explain how that gravel field was going to catch fire, but whatever.

If a team doesn't sellout 24hrs before the game it doesn't get shown in the local market. The local market is considered a 300 mile radius....I think.

I like the blackout rule. I wish it was actually not lifted.

If you cant sell out your stadium for the first game of the season, your city shouldnt have a team.

Once fans started realizing that they wouldnt be able to see the game unless they went to a sports bar or had the ticket, they might actually put their butts in the seats and support the team (if they can afford to of course).

It would be blacked out in the local sports bar also. Sunday Ticket goes by same rules.

I've never missed a Cowboy game that I didn't set out to watch... anywhere, anytime... I guess being 2.5 hours away is my luxury...

Furthermore, when Dallas moves into their new venue in Arlington, I'd bet the ticket prices will probably jump right up there with the Commanders and Patriots...

I never get on Loop 12 for a game. Unless you have to go Loop 12, try 183, it's still a bit of a wait. But instead of getting on the Loop 12 entrance, bypass it. Park on the side in one of those lots or fields. Walk under the highway and over. Yes, you still need to go early but leaving is better.

I always wait 20 minutes after the game, let everyone else leave. By the time you take the long walk, most of the roads are tolerable to drive. The main parking areas are still jammed. But 183 isn't too bad. I have no idea about Loop 12, only took it once doing that.

But took a back road South about a mile, then onto Loop 12 and went to Arlington. No problem. Otherwise I would hit Gwuatwiler (Sp?) then head back west, traffic was going about 35 mph, but not stop and go. I live 12 miles right down 183, took me 20 minutes to get home, not including the 20 minute walk to the car.

Key...NEVER park in the stadium parking. :)

I'm usually coming from Stemmons in North Dallas, so I take Loop 12 south there at the split. I've thought about taking LBJ over to 161 and then going south on 114 to the stadium, but I never do. I always leave that way though. I think the big key is just getting there way early and dealing with the traffic.
