What Does the Cowboy Roster Show Us?

Checked out the updated Cowboy roster this morning and guess what I saw/learned?

1. We have 8 vets with 10 years or more of experience (Adams, Ellis, Ferguson, A.Glenn, T.Glenn, Johnson, Owens & Riveria); Riveria will probably be here 1-2 more months. ONLY 2 of these players (Adams & Ellis) are home grown; but 1 has been to several pro bowls.

2. From there we drop down to 14 players who have 5-7 years of experience (Ayodele, Colombo, K.Davis, L.Davis, Gramatica, Gurode, Hamlin, Henry, James, Kosier, Newman, Romo, Williams & Witten). ONLY 6 players are home grown (Gurode, James, Newman, Romo, Williams & Witten); but 4 of them (Gurode/Romo/Williams/Witten) have been to several pro bowls.

3. All remaining players only have 4 years or less of playing time/experience with Ware (in 3rd year) the only pro bowl player.

SO WHAT'S THE POINT OF THIS POST?

I wanted to point out that we have a very, very young team which hopefully has a lot of potential to step up. And that just 2-3 years ago we had as many as 12+ players 30 or over but now we down to just 8

None of our FA signings have gone to the pro bowl since they've been Cowboys.

On the other hand, of those 8 home grown Cowboys with significant experience, 5 have gone to several pro bowls.

And I believe if you put every team through this kind of analysis, you would find similar results.

It is increasingly rare that a team catch a free agent at the peak of their career and enjoy the most productive years which lead to Pro Bowls and so on. We had a player here like that in La'Roi Glover, so I wouldn't consider the job we have done in that regard all that terrible. We've done no better or worse than many others.

Very interesting read, and we really need those #1 defesive draft picks (not named Ware) to start showing up and play like we all thought they would.

Outside of Rivera and Glover, which FA signings had been to the Pro Bowl BEFORE we got them? THAT is much more to the point. TO? Should have gone last season, or was at least close.

I gotta agree with you on this, but I will add that last year (IMO) Owens did merit the Pro Bowl.
