What Does the Dallas Defense Need To Do This Week?

So, despite all the continued Brady hoopla this week on this site, TB averaged 18 points per game over their 17 games. They only averaged 19 points in their 8 victories. Even when they scored 30 vs Carolina in week 18, they had a 6 yard TD drive after a Carolina fumble and a FG to end a 9 yard drive after a Carolina fumble. 17 games averaging 18 points and only 19 point avg in victories shows this TB offense led by Tom Brady has been garbage all year.

Can we expect our defense to hold them to that average? Why or why not? We know we have an offense limited by the OL and the receivers, and a QB struggling to overcome that. Should we expect to win a low scoring game, or are we once again doomed by a garbage defense that requires our offense to score 30 to win?

If Kellen Moore is on point with the game plan and play calling, and if Dak protects the ball and no one person dooms us with a season worse performance, I think we can score 20 points on a very good TB defense. If that happens, can Dan Quinn and his defense get the job done?

I think the key is stopping the run game without having to bring down extra defenders. It's a weakness vs weakness battle, but still important. If the Cowboys can win against the run that it frees up your secondary to double a guy like Evans and mix coverages. If they have to consistently play safeties closer to the LOS all of a sudden Brady gets to pick us apart. LVE will have his hands full in both the run game and covering those backs slipping out to catch passes. Brady loves to get his running backs involved in the pass game.

Hit Brady every chance they get even if they get a penalty. There is no way a 45 year old man should be quarterbacking in the NFL. Make him pay.

Stop the run…Cowboys got gashed in the run game during their last meeting;
Shut down Mile Evans;
Make Brady uncomfortable in the pocket; I don’t think we need to sack him per se, but definitely move him off his spot.

W/ Hankins in the game last time he played: 3.5 YPC
When Hankins wasn't playing: 5.4 YPC

He makes that much difference.

1. We need at least 28 to beat Bucs. Offense better be able to demuver

2. Defense needs to do 3 things: a. Stop their run game, b. Pressure Brady up the middle not from the sides and c. Sure tackling

If we do these we can win

After Daks first interception they need to go as a unit and beat him down like he was on the beach

Pressure Brady up the middle with no more than four rushers so he can’t climb the pocket. You’re not gonna beat Brady with complex coverages; there’s not a coverage he hasn’t seen thousands of times. You’re not gonna beat Brady with exotic blitzes; there’s not a blitz look he hasn’t see thousands of times.

Four man pressure. Up the middle. The Cowboys don’t have any dominant interior linemen. Therefore, they have to rekindle the success they were having midseason with stunts, and hope LVE and Hankins can snuff out the run and recognize misdirection.

Not an easy task.

Get off the field on third downs.

Show up and not stink.

If the defense shows up and has a good, not great game, TB should struggle to score 20.
