This signing means the world to this offensive line. First it pretty much ends the Free at OG debate ( not really cause writers still need to write something). It also means this O-line has the potential to be a above average to good O-line. An O-line we can not only contend for playoffs but for something more. I'm confident an O-line that starts Smith-Leary-Frederick-Waters-Free will allow our offense to run every play in their playbook and I can vision a 2007 type year for the offense.
However, this is no slam dunk of a deal. Waters is 36 years old and coming off a year in which he hasn't played. Dallas did work him out and they would have to see significant ability in Waters to sign him so late. Another concern is how long will it take Waters to get into not only game shape but to understand our offensive scheme and learn how to play next to Frederick and Free. Keeping him out week 1 is the smart and only logical move, but with a man that is as smart as Waters is and if he's in the shape he is according to reports, I think he will be ready for Week 2. Lets just hope Bernie has some pride and doesn't mail in week 1 as he knows he's headed for the backup G spot.
Having said that Bernie has the potential to be a good swing G. Leary has a knee condition that Dallas will have to monitor and Waters is 36 years old. There's a good chance we are gonna need Bernie at some point in this season. And I believe he can do that.
Man I was getting down the past couple of weeks with the Leary, Ratlif, Spencer injury situation....but this just made my summer. I'm ready for this.....
