What exactly could Smith bring to the LB spot?

Blue, red, purple, pink. Whatever color you like.

It means you attacked me and now I know you.

Go Cowboys.

I kind of doubt you know me.

If it makes you feel better, you aren't on my radar. Chances are by the time the afternoon games are on, I'll forget your name. Unless you respond to this. Then it will show up on my notifications. I'll check. Thus, reminding me.

He was the best LB in the draft, the chances of him playing football again are less than 5%.

I would like him to become a Ray Lewis type but meaner and angrier. To hit people w bad bad intent
From everything I've read and seen, this is my only concern about him. He seems like a super nice kid. I hope his smile belies an angry young man on the field.

having followed Smith on twitter I think his greatest attribute might be leadership. You will not find a more positive person. He is violent hitter who can run side-line to side-line. Athletic enough to cover and blitz. Hopefully he has studied everything about Sean Lee.

The nerve is healing, the tests show it, so I see no reason to doubt the peroneal nerve will start firing again.

There will be some normal rust when Jaylon Smith returns to the field next year, but he will be over a year and a half removed from surgery when the team goes camping. And Smith has been in the weight room and out on the field working for a long time.

I can't wait to see him.
I hope you are correct but his progress seems to be a secret.

I do wonder if there could be a situation where it could "fire" but he still does not get back to 100%.

For instance could his forty time be 4.9 when he returns instead of around 4.5 like it probably was prior to the injury?

If he has his wheels back, Smith brings a good sized, sideline to sideline player who can close ground quickly on receiving threats. He can run with any running back in coverage, and can stick with TEs. He's not great in taking on blockers and disengaging from them (he's more of a run around the block kind of player). On blitzes, if he has a lane, he's terrific at getting home and finishing the plays off. He can be an explosive hitter when squared. On top of that, he is a very high character guy who players gravitate around. He's much better as a weakside guy than an inside player, but can play a Tampa 2 style mike with his ability to drop into the deep middle in coverage. Without question, he's an every down LB.

Um ... with our history, probably another 2nd round flop.

The Dallas Cowboys under Jason Garrett are rather stingy when it comes to giving out medical information.

The peroneal nerve in Jaylon Smith's left leg was stretched and went to sleep when he suffered a devastating knee injury in the Fiesta Bowl last January.

A little while back Bryan Broaddus said the nerve wasn't firing yet but that tests showed healing/improvement.

It's getting better. There's no reason to suspect the nerve won't fire or that the left leg won't return to normal.

There are no guarantees, but I've never been concerned about Smith returning to the football field next season.

Where do you put him when Hitch and Lee are in? SLB? Those dudes (SLB) are usually thumpers, what you claim Smith not to be. Lee is Will, and that to me, is Jaylon's second calling, but Lee ain't giving it up. There's no way you pull Smith for Hitch, unless Hitch continues to trend up (he's been playing better, lately)

I don't think you ever take Smith out of Mike. He's just too freaking good. He's a hell of a tackler. He doesn't kill people, like Sean Taylor (FS) or McClain (like you said), but when he gets his paws on you, you ain't getting free
Being a good blitzer (not necessarily pass rusher) I could see him being utilized as a SAM on early downs a la Von Miller (when Denver ran the 4-3 prior to Wade) or Bruce Irvin when he was in Seattle and playing him and Lee as flankers beside a MLB. Unlike Miller though who pass rushed when Denver went to the nickel or down and distance situations, Smith stays back and pairs with Lee as the nickelbackers.

You can edit the thread title. I'm still calling it the album spot. That will forever be his role here.

If Jaylon can't play next year our top needs are...

DE
Album
DT
WR

I will take the redshirt year with a guy like JSmith.....he is a sponge that will suck up everything SLee and the other vets offer....his injury has shown his work ethic and it is top notch......all while remaining super positive like you said.......being to here to be a part of this team is invaluable and he will be a cornerstone with Dak and Zeke for years to come

I still think of it as trading our 34th pick last year for a top 10 pick in 2017....which is a big win

Most scouts thought that Jaylon Smith played LB better than Ezekiel Elliot plays RB. Think about that for a minute.
Unfortunately smith wont have a line making his position the easiest mlb job in the league.

He replaces McClain at MLB and is basically a Lee clone. Exactly what we need!!! He will be the 2nd best defensive player the instant he steps on the field.

If Tapper and Smith can play next year we are that much closer to having a very good defense.

I am really looking forward to seeing what Charles Tapper can do for the defensive line. If he is healthy, I think he gives them an immediate upgrade.

Right now, all he can bring to the LBs is Gatorade.
Hopefully, next year he will bring them some quality H2O like Bobby Buechea.
