What exactly is Eberflus good at?

What is Eberflus strength ?

Is he just a zone and no blitz guy?

That’s great if you have a bunch of all pro defense linemen I guess, but we don’t.

To be honest, I've never been impressed with him and that's not me saying it now after seeing how bad the defense is.

I'm saying Jerry used to seem infatuated with him when he was a Cowboys defensive position coach years ago and his name always seemed to enter the conversation when higher level internal coaching positions opened up, but I never saw anything special from him.

No creativity. No defining scheme. Nothing that set him apart from every other coach.

Again, I'm not saying that in the moment or with the benefit of today's hindsight.

I just was really never impressed with him. Hopeful? Sure. Impressed? No.

Schottenheimer has to ask himself

1) does zone give your team the best chance at being successful?
if no then get out of zone and ask Eberflus to adjust to man
2) If ME refuses to he needs to be fired
3) ME or the next DC has to sit Osa on base defense, run situations and put Toia in, Clark and Toia give you better chance run stopping in the middle
why? Toia is 340 pounds and can clog the middle better than Osa
4) Use Osa in passing situations, 3rd and long or shotgun
5) Get Wilson off the field on passing situations, 3rd and long or shotgun, Wilson cant cover, same with Sanborn get him off the field on 3rd down passing situations or shotgun
6) use Wilson on base defense, run situations, basically using a platoon Wilson/Sanborn/Toia in base defense to stop the run, bring up Julius Wood from the PS
7) get Murray off the field on passing downs, put in Marist and James
8) instruct Marist, his job is to cover anyone coming out of the backfield and stick to them like glue, instruct Marist if the QB is scrambling stick to your man DO NOT BREAK COVERAGE
9) instruct James to spy the QB, you can reverse the roles if needed, COVER THE QB
10) Get Carson out on the field, have him play slot, Move Bland out of slot ASAP, go back to the A gap blitz (have no idea why they dont use it), bench Elam or cut him
11) instruct the corners to press the receivers on 3rd down or shotgun, DO NOT GIVE ANY FREE RELEASE unless its 3rd and 20 or more

I’m still freaking pissed they didn’t try to retain Dan Quinn. They should have offered him higher pay to keep him.

I’m even more pissed that they let Quinn poach Joe Whitt from us as defensive coordinator.

I’m beyond furious that the Cowboys’ front office didn’t even attempt to sign Al Harris. Instead, we went with a bunch of underperforming assistants who are just as inept and mediocre as Eberflus.

I was never happy with the Mike Zimmer signing and was even more disappointed with Eberflus. Thank you, Jerry, for another miserable, deplorable hire. I hope they fire him sooner rather than later and just go with anyone. Even a monkey could coach better than him.

they are so far off the ball they cant make any plays just cover empty open space
There is no physicality in this defense

These guys need to not only be on the field they need to be top players for this team to have success
