49ers draft we’ll and also make trades. Their philosophy has been to not sign as many FAs and to accumulate comp picks from players that leave and from minority coaches /front office staff who get hired as HCs / GMs. Then drafting well and using the additional picks in trades, like acquiring Trent Williams and MacCaffery.

They just trade picks for that. And the last one was Carr. But they have traded picks for Coop, Hank, Gilmore, and Cooks.
I’m sure we will wait it out until we can get some vets on 1 year deals as usual

Hargrave was one of the top free agents last year and they had a need at dt and went out and made that happen. Not to mention the aggressiveness they show when it comes to trades.
Free agency should be used with the draft to plug holes. The draft is how you build the roster and then you use free agency or trades to fill needs. The cowboys never use free agency to sign impact guys
