Exactly and he proved he's good enough.

Yeah, this year's performance was impressive considering circumstances around him compared to his peers and he really flashed late in the season.

There's absolutely zero reason to exclude his week 17 performance from his QBR so we won't talk about that one. Unless we want to exclude the first three weeks of the season also I supoose.

Having the leading rusher worsens his stats, not betters them, so that's actually going against him not for him.

Then we`ll have to agree to disagree but his 17th QBR is not for debate no matter the circumsatnces, all you have to do is look at some of the QB`s ahead of him that had problems as well.
As far as having the leading rusher in the league and worsening your stats??? I can`t remember how that worked out for him in 2016.

Anyway, you say 12th I say 17th, we`re not that far off.

I think @pansophy did the best job, of realistically breaking down what has happened with Dak.

Dak came into the league and played really well for a Rookie. He benefited from having the best offensive line and the best running back in the league. But he also did a good job of executing the plays called for him and minimizing mistakes.

The second season happened. Dak was playing well again the first half of 2017. Then Zeke got suspended. Tyron got hurt. Dak got brutalized during the Atlanta game.

At that point, Dak’s play went into a major slump. He got hesitant in his reads and his throws. He was feeling pressure that wasn’t there. “Seeing ghosts”.

This poor play continued for around 15-16 games total. Basically an entire season worth between the last half of 2017 and the first half of 2018.

His slow start in 2018 wasn’t aided by the poor OL play and the lack of receiving options. Truth is, the talent around Dak other than Zeke was poor. Dak ALSO was still playing poorly. Which made for an overall dreadful offense and passing attack.

Then Dak started playing better again. Despite still having poor protection overall, he started seeing the field better. He started getting through his reads quicker and he started making quicker decisions. He started shake off the “funk” that he was in since Atlanta. It was almost like Dak went through a delayed sophomore slump.

Going through slumps is actually pretty common for young players in the NFL. Especially QB’s as they are retooling their mechanics and also having more responsibility placed on their shoulders.

Some posters here don’t want to admit that it’s common for young QB’s to go through Rough patches but it’s the truth. Admittedly, Dak’s rough patch was very bad. He was horrible for that 16 game stretch. Just horrible.

But he was also legitimately very good the first 24 games he played and very good the last 10 he has played (including playoffs).
Like the effort, but why are we ignoring 3-4 games in 2016 in the 2nd half of the season that exposed what was to be expected from him in future seasons? That 1st half against the packers in the playoffs put us down big time (no, defense didn't help either until the 2nd half but there seems to be a trend when Dak plays better)

And that Denver game in 2017 was in week 2 and was more brutal than the Atl game. And let's talk about what we got in 2018 towards the 2nd half. We were barely scoring TDs unless someone (Cooper) broke a regular pass into a big gain. Too often we're still scoring only 1 TD and it only came from a big play or defensive breakdown.

Whoever can take this as hate, but I'm just tired of hearing Dak was good/great for x amount of games then ATL game, then bad for awhile then good again. I look at it like he was good when teams couldn't expose his weakness early on, then teams figured him out and he failed. But rebounded when his typical plays turned into big gains. I still don't see progression pre/post-snap, I still see late/no reads. I get that no QB is perfect and every QB does learn the longer they play. I'm just not convinced Dak is progressing at the rate he should be. He holds the ball too long, people blame the receivers or oline. He doesn't run people blame coaches, but then he doesn't run when it should be natural instincts when the wide open opportunity presents itself. Slow qbs have quick feet and use the pocket, I'm far from convinced Dak has grasped that concept. Even on plays where it appears he has the option to run instead of handing off the defensive ends usually sell on Zeke and Dak sees it, but still hands it off for no gain.

Sure It sounds like I'm being over critical, it just seems he's average at too many things and people expect him to correct it all over time. How much time are we going to risk? Not acknowledging all this and not having a QB comp is bad for the teams future. Worst case scenario is he gets paid a mega contract and we need a team to carry, we would be royally screwed for years if we don't get results.

In what way was that supporting cast dreadful?

Alfred Morris filling in for Zeke was not dreadful.

Yes we lost Tyron and Chaz Green was a turnstile for one of those games, but he was trash even when tyron and Zeke both were back.

You’re right it wasn’t dreadful the entire second half of 2017. I’ll give you that.

The supporting cast was dreadful the first half of 2018, other than Zeke.

Like I said in an earlier post, Dak himself didn’t play well either. But it’s also fair to point out that lots of young QB’s go through slumps. That’s why there’s even a nickname for the “sophomore slump” because of how common it is.

Nobody is ignoring those games. Every player in the NFL has bad games. If you’re waiting to find a QB who plays an entire 16 game season without any bad games, you’re going to be waiting a very very long time.

Dak’s overall 2016 was excellent for a rookie. There is no denying that. Dak also played well in the playoff game. There’s no denying that either. So the offense started slow that game.... the entire offense did. It wasn’t just Dak. Anybody with two eyes could see that during the packers playoff game.

Simple as that. This is the NFL man. No player is perfect and plays well every single game.

The other teams get paid too. Other teams have defensive players making millions of dollars a year for a reason. So that’s why I looo at trends over stretches of a season. Of course Dak has had bad games though. That goes for every single player in the league.

In 2012, the team went into the season without a legit WR3. Ogletree was entering his fourth season, while neither Beasley nor Harris had ever caught a pass in the NFL. Ogletree got most of the targets.

Romo, 2012
to Ogletree/Beasley/Harris:
61 of 102 for 750 yds 5td 8int 66.2
to everyone else:
364 of 544 for 4153 yds 23td 11int 95.3

In 2018, the team went into the season without an outside WR who had played with the team previously (except for TWill, who ended up with a total of 3 targets).

Prescott, 2018 (games 1-7)
to Hurns/Gallup/Thompson/Austin
38 of 73 for 563 yds 3 td 3 int 74.2
to everyone else
87 of 130 for 837 yds 4 td 1 int 91.7

This doesn't count the shovel pass to Austin, which was only technically a pass attempt. If you count that as a pass, the rating goes up to 79.

Because of the defense. Our defense was ranked way higher than his self-led offense

Are u trolling?

Yall make this too easy
Really? How did the defense do vs. LA? Prescott had a solid game and scored twice. Elliott was invisible. Win or go home game, right?
Somehow you'll attempt to give everyone but Prescott an excuse and point the finger at him.

That chart further approves our (Realists) point about Dak.

The chart in the middle shows Dak’s numbers when his supporting cast deteriorated.

6 of those games were without Zeke
3 were without Tyron
And 8 were without a #1 receiver

This is why you dont give him a massive contract

Because most quarterbacks excel when the best back in football is out, one of the three best tackles and a legitimate threat outside.

Do you even watch the sport?

Nothing happened. He's what all the scouting reports says he is.

He's borderline backup, bad mechanics, bad footwork, accuracy issues, etc.

People love to bash dak when his cast was unhealthy.
How about the highest drafted QBs that year.

Goff
And
Wentz

Neither one of them threw for 20+ TDS each of their first three years.

How many game winning drives and fourth quarter comebacks did they lead?

Wins? Yeah, Goff is there now with a chance. He was also the first overall pick. Remember daks
Four interception, zero TD performance this year?
Oh no that was mini gosling in LA.
How many times has wentz finished a seasonbealthh enough to even play if it mattered?

He’s not the prototype QB.
He wins.
The teams follows him.
He doesn’t turn it over nearly as much as the others and he scores more.

But?

We can get into his completion percentages in depth of target too and really prove that he’s above average at literally every level of the field too.

But that doesn’t fit the narrative, dude is your own QB and you hate on him. Find another squad.

You are ignoring a lot about Dak and you ignored a lot of problems he was showing his rookie season. You have yet to own up to that, by the way.

Everyone here who was labeling me a r*cist needs to eat some crow and apologize. I want you all lining up and doing it - each and every one of you who implied it. May not have been you, but I want you in line just for the stupid username.

You IDA's (Incessant Dak Arguers) get so caught up in the details that you consistently miss the big pic.

Dak can win games. He's proven that. Now, what we need to know next, is can he win on the big stage. Can he throw that 30 yard pass to move the ball downfield in the NFC Championship game? Can he move the ball consistently enough to win TOP and dominate the LOS? Can he get the ball into the end zone instead of settling for FG's?

Those are the real question we need answered. And the truth is, we don't know yet. Dak has done all these things on a limited basis. And he's been improving.

We've taken the first step. We've replaced our completely craptastic OC. Is the new one better? Don't know, but I have hope.

Although I still love Dak and think that he can still grow, why was he so good his rookie season? Or should I say, why was he so "overrated" in his rookie season? Him and Zeke were both powerhouses and they both were the duo to beat in 2016, but, after that, Dak went downhill. Zeke stayed the same (AKA, a great RB). What happened? The coaching? Tony Romo leaving? I don't understand how our opinions and way of play changed so quickly.

My opinion is this thread is quite obviously started by a troll.

Football is a team sport. You have 22 men on the field trying to win the football game. Every person on that field has something to with the stats. You get a corner that is jumping curl routes and Cooper and Prescott fake it and go long (helps his stats). If you get inside the 2 yard line and throw it (3) times does not help your stats. Picking certain games for an individual does not represent how that player played all season. Payton Manning sucked against teams that had 3-4 defense, but shredded teams with 4-3 defenses. If more teams had 3-4 defenses would Payton Manning not be talked about being a hall famer?

I point out plenty of Dak’s flaws. Just because you haven’t read it, doesn’t mean it hasn’t happened. Also, of course he had flaws his rookie season. Every rookie player has flaws. What you’re saying isn’t news it’s common sense. But for some
Reason you think it’s great knowledge on your part.

Furthermore, I wasn’t even posting on this message board when Dak was a rookie. So that’s makes you a liar or a fool.

If you need people to line up on a message board to eat some crow and apologize to you, that shows how much of an arrogant tool you are. Which comes as no surprise by the way, because it’s evident in most of your posts.

So in other words, don’t hold your breath on people kissing up to you.

To think I took you off ignore to see what’s youve had to say nowadays and low and behold, the same arrogant, holier than thou attitude from you is still readily apparent.

Dak returned to playing the same way as he did in college. His rookie season was an accident that will never occur again. To many fans bought into Dak without doing their proper research.

Yeah, that Dak sucked and got worse this season, especially as the season moved along.

Smh. Quit starting fallacious and untrue threads already. With Dak having to play with an oft-injured Oline full of backups, and started the first half of the season with no real #1 WR or #1TE, he actually improved his performance to a career season best.

Yeah, Dak regressed and sucked like you said.
