What happened to Mickey Spagnola?

You know, I’ve noticed that Mickey Spagnola has not written for DC.com in the recent past (unless I’m just missing his columns). Did he move on to something else or taking some kind of leave? Since I don’t live in Texas (am in Chicago) I’m not so close to the day-to-days of the local Cowboys media, so I thought I’d ask.

He's still there. He was on Talkin' Cowboys radio show yesterday.

Unfortunately.

Dont know why people hate on Mickey.

I love listening to him because you are able to get a feel for what the organization really thinks about a player.

Anyone Mickey bad mouths means the organization is souring on him.

People need to learn to use Mickey's opinion as a tool.

Hopefully he has decided to go write for another team.

I listen to the podcasts and usually decide on a whim between immature but opinionated (lunch break) and more mature but conformist (spagnola)

I met Spagnola last year outside of the stadium just before the playoff game against the Eagles. I recognized him, and said, "Let's go Mickey!"

He looked at me like he forgot where he was, and that there was a game due to kick off in less than an hour. He kinda mumbled something and went on his way inside the stadium.

Mickey is a pretty good writer, yes he is a homer but since almost every other writer, local and national, writes negative stuff about the team just to get ratings and readers, I sometimes like reading positive stuff about the Cowboys.

And like I said before, he is a much better writer than most of them.

Are you implying that nothing negative written about this team is justified?

No but it sure get's old when it's constant. It doesn't matter how good the team is there's a constant negativity. I'm used to local media that just loves everything the local teams do I guess.

Not by a longshot, especially now. But it is when used as a tool to get readers, and with the Cowboys it happens often.

Because in a lot of cities making the playoffs constitutes a successful season, in Dallas only a championship constitutes a successful season; rightfully so.

Maybe it's time for a change in mindset. :laugh2:

The organization is just held to a different standard than most.

Not when you're investing thousands of dollars every season in a team. It costs a family of four $600 to attend a game (according to a statistic I heard on The Ticket yesterday). If you're going to invest that kind of cash every week, you have every right to expect nothing but the best from your investment.

That has nothing to do with the overly negative Media.

Investment? Sorry, it's a game, and it's entertainment. You're not getting anything back for that $600. If that's your idea of an investment, I got some great opportunities for you.

Does it have to be tangible for it to be an investment?
