What happened to our offense?

Yes, the defense was horrible yesterday and was the reason we lost the game but you're telling me the offense can only put up 14 points on the day? We didn't put up not even 1 point in the whole second half of the game and keep in mind this was against the worst pass rush in the whole NFL. We have to start getting creative on offense or we are toast. It is looking more and more like an 8-8 season. We beat the easy teams on our schedule and get beat by any of the good teams. JG and Callahan have to go. Neither one should have been brought back this season. JJ strikes again!

Jerry got his wish. he didn't think Garrett was able to manage OC and Head Coaching duties. and gave it to callahan. who is not attacking the defenses deep and trying to dink and dunk his way up the field. Romo doesn't want to run the ball so he changes plays at LOS to pass plays, as soon as he sees a run defense formatoin. so he is not trusting his guys that they can do their job.

we scored 14 points yesterday. 20 points against the giants D that everyone is punching holes in. 16 points against KC.

this offense is without imagination. predictable. its a mess.

There are teams that do more offensively with less then what we have{seattle for example}. So yes there is something wrong with this offense....what it is I cant put my finger on.

We have a good QB, a stud WR and a solid RB, yet in a passing based league we cant put up 20 points on KC or SD? It is shameful.

Unimaginative play calling, dumb penalties, dropped passes, and fumbles at the very worst possible times. Other than that, we're doing great! ;)

I blame the offense. The defense scored almost as much as the offense.

The defense also gave up 401 passing yards that led to 3 TD's and an 83.3 completion percentage for Rivers. Those numbers by an opposing QB is going to get you beat most weeks and put pressure on any offense. The defense is on pace to give up almost 5000 passing yards and 40 TD's that's crazy. If you have to score 30+ points most weeks to win you're going to be up against it regardless of your offense. The only way the Cowboys defense can stop anyone is by forcing turnovers.

When they're not forcing turnovers they're giving up yards and TD's. The Cowboys have issues on both sides of the ball but you can't allow opposing offenses to move up and down the field scoring TD's on most of their drives. Every defense bends it's a passing league but you have to keep opposing offenses out of the end zone and hold them to FG attempts.

KC, SD, detroit, etc.

the problem is multiple folds. Romo is checking out of too many run plays to pass plays. I think defenses know that now and show a run defense formation depending on the down, romo checks out and they switch to pass defense. our completion percentage for 1st down is low. and it become more difficult because then we have no choice but to pass when you are in the 1st and long situations.

plus callahan is pass happy as has been pointed. except he is not attacking the defense deep. there are 9 zones in the pass offense. we don't attack the deep third and rarely attack the middle third except with Dez. everything else is short.

there is no identity to the offense. the team is losing confidence in itself. the defense is still adjusting. we are not making big plays. we are giving up big plays. and that leads to the inconsistency on the offense and unreliable defense.

Cowboys offense has been garbage since 2007. Other than when Garrett first took over and Kitna was the starter! 31.2ppg

The offense has steadily declined ever since Garrett showed up and it's not an aberration no matter what the stats say at the end of the year.

Offense and defense look worse than last year for sure!! If we dont stop playing scared on offense its a wrap. This short pass and run crap isnt going to score enough points

The problem with the offense is it's focused around ball security with Romo. It all stems back to his turnover issues and what happened vs Washington in the season finale last year. Instead of taking some shots down the field where Romo tends to get himself into trouble the Cowboys are attempting to dink and dunk their way down the field with high percentage passes. After the first 4 games Romo has yet to have a 300 yard passing game which has never happened with him after the first 4 games. Against the Giants on opening day Romo completed 36 passes but only produced 263 yards. The following week vs KC he completed 30 passes for less than 300 yards so it's clear the Cowboys don't want him taking chances down the field. Although Romo has been very efficient through the first 4 games suffering only one turnover and completing 72.4 percent of his passes with a passer rating of 105.0 we're not getting the big chunk plays. Dez scored from 34 yards out vs the Chargers last Sunday but most of that was run after the catch. The offense lacks explosiveness.

The Cowboys have turned Romo into a game manager. If they start moving the ball the penalties start up killing drives. Garrett seems to have more trust in Bailey than anyone on offense setting him up for 50+ yard FG attempts. The Cowboys don't want Romo having to do a lot but to score enough points to beat quality teams you have to take some chances down the field. Entering last Sundays game the Chargers had been struggling against the pass like the Cowboys. In week one Schaub put up 346 yards on San Diego. In week two Vick put up a career high 426 yards on them and in week three even Jake Locker put up 299 yards on the Chargers defense. Romo's 244 yards was the lowest San Diego gave up this season. The Cowboys played right into the hands of the Chargers which is the mark of a poorly coached team.

Yards don't beat you TD's do but it's clear looking at Romo's yardage totals through the first 4 games this season compared to previous seasons the Cowboys are not attacking down the field. The Cowboys have the weapons with a Dez Bryant to be an explosive high scoring offense but they're so worried about Romo turning the ball over they've turned him into a bus driver. The Cowboys don't have the defense or a good enough running game to pitter pat around on offense against teams that have premier passers. The Cowboys are going to have to start opening up the offense and allow Romo to do what he does best because currently they're playing not to lose.

Yep good points -- the question is can the team evolve and adjust as they go through the season or are we really who we are right now the rest of the way?

What we've seen through the first 4 games is what we've been seeing for the past several years it's like a rerun of the same depressing movie. Hard to see it changing when we keep seeing the same issues year after year. The only consistency with the Cowboys is inconsistency. Their pass defense never improves we keep seeing the same coverage problems every season. The Cowboys know there's an issue there but nothing they try works. Once you set sail and immediately start seeing the same cracks again it's hard to stop it when you have several premier passers left on the schedule. The Cowboys signed Carr, drafted Claiborne who's been a bust so far, changed DC's twice since 2010 and went back to the 4-3 and the defense still can't stop anyone. The more they change things the more things remain the same because there's a head coaching issue whether some want to come yo grips with it or not.

If the Cowboys show improvement in one area they take a step back in another which keeps them spinning their wheels at 500. Even though the Cowboys have improved in forcing turnovers that's the only way they can get opposing offenses off the field. Offensively all we're seeing are 5 yard outs and drag routes. The Cowboys are going to have to start taking some chances and unleash Romo Sunday or Peyton and company will shoot them down before halftime. The Cowboys will likely try to run the ball early to keep Peyton off the field but they can't plan on winning a 14-10 game this is going to be a shootout for as long as the Cowboys can stay in it.

I blame the offense more than the defense. For god sake we played the worse defense in the league and we can only put up 14 points? I don't buy into the fact that our defense can't off the field. If thats the case, we should still have scored on our posession when we got the ball. But no, our offense sputtered and failed. I don't blame the play calling. I blame the playbook. It sucks. We need to dump Garretts playbook down the toilet as soon as possible.
