Dead ball...happens fairly often. If a ball hits the crossbar and goes on over, the kick is good. Otherwise, also a dead ball.

I believe he is talking about kickoffs

Dead at any time. Crossbar and uprights both considered out of bounds on kicks.

How about that field goal that went through the upright and hit the middle downward sloping pole and came back into the field of play! It was called - GOOD! :)

Totally weird play that has happened only once in history.

If it goes over the crossbar, the kick is good and you get 1000 points. The game is automatically over.

What if you're losing by 1001 points at the time? Do you automatically lose? Doesn't seem quite fair. Might have to revisit that rule in the offseason.

I think I have seen a ball bounce off the crossbar into a player's hands and be returned before. Maybe that was in the CFL?

No. You automatically lose by questioning Mike Pereira. http://img805.*************/img805/3885/mikepereira.jpg

dont they just re-kick the ball?

:starspin

No. As previously stated, it's just a touchback as if the ball hit the line on the back of the endzone.

Jeff Fisher files a complaint to the league that you placed the upright in the path of the ball.

Back in the old days, the field goal posts were at the front of the endzone instead of the back of the endzone. Perhaps you saw footage from a very old game. I don't know what the rules would have been back then under those conditions. What you described cannot happen in today's NFL. That is a certainty. Nobody knows the rules to that whacky brand of football in the CFL, so it is possible that is what you saw.

If it's the Beeeeler, then the upright launches into the crowd killing hundreds of fans. Of course, their heirs will sue the Cowboys and the NFL because they didn't screw the uprights down securely enough for the innocent spectators behind the end zone. The heirs will sue for travel expenses to the game and their lost wages. Jerry will blame the NFL. The NFL will be sued. Football will go away.

They may have a case. Uprights aren't typically screwed down. They are usually just set in a hole.
