What Happens If Tyron Is A Below Average LT in 2023?

I want to start by saying I don’t think his losses to Parsons necessarily indicate he’s declined that far. Parsons is having an unreal camp apparently so I’m not going to pin it on Tyron.

But, we do most of our what-ifs involving Tyron and injuries. What happens if his physical deterioration is so much so that he’s an ineffective LT against the better edges?

Do the Cowboys have the ‘nads to sit him? How would they configure the new line-up?

I don't think he will be to his usual all pro form, but he is a veteran, still good & savvy, although may not be great. I think he is going to be OK, but going against Parsons level of DEs, may give him some trouble. I think if we see him struggle, we have options to help him, with our TEs, specially ferguson and hopefully if Schoonmaker being able to recover and play and we can roll them to either side of the OL to help with

Tyron isn’t what he was but as long as he remains one of our best 5 on the OL they’ll find a place for him. The only way he sits is if he’s not healthy. Some are reading way too much into his performance the other day against Parsons. He’s a freak at the top of his game. Good luck finding anyone over 30 that can contain him one on one. You pretty much have to double-team him and hold him to have a chance at stopping him.

I have faith he won't be. The Lion is eating him up in practice, but that Lion is the king, he does that to just about everyone.

But for the sake of your question... I think they will slide Tyler over and maybe Richards or Bass gets the nod at LG. But but BUT! Tyron is going to have a great year. Let's be positive! :flagwave:

They'll just chip that edge more. If neither of your starting tackles can win on an island, your offense is pretty much doomed anyway.

Tyron is still a powerful player, so he's fine when he wins with his hands. There's just a handful of rushers who can challenge him with speed and then exploit any of his sets where he commits to stopping a speed rush. I don't think we're going to see him getting whipped just week in and week out.

I also think that Tyron needs reps, honestly. He looks late getting off the ball at times (and it was true last year too) and while he's probably lost some burst in his initial kick, I think he's reacted late too. That's going to be timing more than anything, and it's where the lack of practice and playing probably hurts as much as anything.

Yep.
The 'nads to sit him while also naming whomever as a "better" replacement would definitely add to the annual drama of this football team.
But I truly wish him the best of health on the year as I want the least amount of oline shuffling as can be avoided.

Plan on subpar Tyron then you can only be pleasantly surprised. I still think it was dumb taking a TE in the 2nd you could have had in the 3rd and Passing on OL. It was a bigger concern than TE. Hopfully those late rounders turn out

Sitting Tyron is heresy. He'll be at least above average til the day he retires. You don't just lose technique or intelligence. And I highly doubt he'll lose enough mobility or strength to make him below average. Peters played til he was 40 and I've always felt Tyron was half a notch above Peters. The only thing that will end his career before 35 is injuries.

At this stage of his career I suspect Tyron will be only a little above league average for a LT - maybe top 10ish? If he drops to 20ish it won't be all that debilitating. The bigger issue is when Tyron goes down and we are playing a **** LG and kick Tyler out to LT what happens. Tyron will at worst be serviceable IMO and likely will be pretty good. But, imagine if the old, elite Tyron shows up how good we'll be...

It's the five best as always, it's not what you've done but what you can do. If Tyron's a liability he sits.

We will have to see him in games at full speed. Maybe he is taking it easy to avoid injury in practice, but I think Tyron's lateral quickness has been decreasing for the last few years. If you remember, this is what happened to Larry Allen at the end of his career. He was still strong, but quicker guys were beating him inside.

Our backups suck so I dont see how they sit him. Tyron is probably not going full tilt in practice as he doesnt want to get hurt.

Once Tyron goes, the rest of the Oline will begin to go. Thats when the musical chairs start.

Then he becomes the swing quickly hopefully.. I think we better sign Norwell. He was just cut I think. He has starting experience at guard.. Farniok MIGHT be serviceable. I say that because Tyler will be the LT, leaving a huge question mark at LG. I don't like the guys we have at guard enuff just yet. Alot rides on how Farniok and Edoga does.

If he proves to be a “liability”, I imagine they’d slide Tyler over and insert Edoga at LG. That, or try Waletzko at LT. But why worry? There’s no guarantees, plus, what could we do about it anyway?

I am not too worried about his play on the field. I am worried about him staying on it.

Parsons is an animal and it looks like he came into this season with something to prove. I am not even sure if Tyron in his prime could have locked up MP.
