What Happens To Henry If Jones Beats Him Out...

I along with most of the media speculating that Adam Jones could beat Henry out of the starting job before the regular season starts.

My question to you guys is what happens to Henry? Does he move to FS? Does he become the nickle CB? Does he become the odd man out in a crowded secondary?

After watching Hard Knocks, I came away very very impressed with Adam Jones.

Now, don't want to put to much stock into camp or even Preseason games but Jones looks the part to be the starter across from TNewman.

From what I have seen and read that Henry looked slow and was beaten several times. Maybe some had to due with just Henry's play and some maybe by design or coverage. But you got to think or speculate that the Cowboys want Jones to eventually win the starting job so the Cowboys can either move Henry to safety or trade him.

For Henry to move to safety, I would think the only way that happens depends on how well Roy Williams plays. So far so good for Roy.

This is something to keep an eye on but... What do you think happens to Henry if Jones does beat him out?

Henry is a UFA after 2009 I believe. I do not think at his age and cap number and given the young depth that he would be re-signed.

This is why I have speculated he will be in the deal for a #2 WR only if Adam Jones is reinstated. Until then he is a Cowboy.

This is only my speculation on it. Reading the tea leaves. Going out on a limb.

3rd CB and backup free safety. He is far to talented to trade. You just don't trade good CBs unless you are just trying to get value before the walk in FA.

I doubt it. He is a very good CB which raises his value quite a bit, then tie that with the fact that his salary is only $2.5M a year makes him quite valuable. It makes it that much harder to trade a player (on the wrong side of 30) that will be 32 for a highly talented budding young WR.

Until Newman fully heals, Henry is very valuable as depth, even if he is displaced by Adam.

Everyone gets beat in training camp... Jones and Newman included.

Anthony Henry is one of the most under-appreciated players the Cowboys have had.

It constantly amazes me to hear fans dog the guy. He makes INTs. He has really good numbers as far as yards per ball thrown his way. He tackles. He is everything you want from a CB (unless "flash and show" and track speed is really important to you).

Some of you are constantly trying to get rid of a guy who has done nothing but exceed all that we can ask of him.

I imagine when we get in tight spaces such as the red zone Henry will be in the game.

He is to big and a great matchup vs the bigger receivers like Plaxico to not get him lined up across from them.

Nothing "happens" to Henry when A. Jones is officially named the starter.

Jones is the better player, some of us knew this or at least we're willing to overlook his off the field BS and admit this prior to his acquisition.

Henry is an above average to good NFL player. He lacks outstanding athletic ability so he'll often struggle in training camp and practice type drills.

He's not a lock down man to man guy. But he does do well in a cover two or zone concept. He's big and strong and can excel at jamming/redirecting WR's, especially when he has over the top help.

He'll be a valuable nickle/3rd CB. When he comes in, Newman or Jones will slide in to cover the slot WR. Henry's skill set is best suited to cover the outside WR.

He'll be the third corner and maybe slide in and play a little safety where needed if this happens.

Henry is a much better game player than a practice player for one.

His primary role this season will be as a CB. I doubt he's out of the top three CB rotation any time soon unless he gets dinged up.

By midseason he may be giving up some playing time to Jenkins and Scandrick, but he will be playing more then them if he's 100% healthy.

Not sure if he's here next season no matter what the financial situation is for him. Trade? Maybe. He will have value as long as he's healthy.

Henry gets more than his share of INTs. If he can stay healthy enough he will do well. I'm not certain you want to lose that. If Jenkins, Scandrick and the rest do well enough that we can put three quality CBs on the field then he could be in trouble when you consider his cost to stay here and his value as trade bait.

This ain't no slam dunk.

Also need to consider how comfortable are they with Adam Jones. He's one incident away from being gone. What happens if he gets stopped like Tank did or he slips. What happens if TNew goes down. Henry starts looking pretty good.

Pacman is practicing the same side Henry plays right now. Which is the reason Jenkins is getting the start over Pacman this Saturday. I think there is a very real reason why he is working the right side first. Baring injury, Pacman and Newman will be the starters at some point this season. (or at least see more time, I say that because we say what happen last year with Barber and JuJo) Henry will become the 3rd CB of sort. He is already practicing to cover tight ends.

Veteran depth, nothing wrong with that to me...
Depth or a slide to FS, Roy slides up a little...

the depth we can have can create all sorts of potential line ups for the defemse

i totally agree with this last year every one wanted to trade him or get rid of him but when they seen him play the way he was playing last year i didnt hear anyone saying they wanted to trade him
