What happens with Tyron Smith?

We could use the cap space but who is the backup/swing tackle if you cut him?
While I totally get your point, paying a swing tackle $13.6M (cap hit of $17.6M) is absolutely beyond moronic in a cap world. If Smith stays, he starts (at least for the 6 games or so he is healthy). So if you bring back Tyron it means another year of Tyler at LG or trying Tyron there. Personally I keep him one more year and draft another OL for when he is hurt or for 2024 and beyond or trade him if we can get good value in return. But no way this team can spend those cap dollars on a swing tackle.

Isn’t it crazy to keep a guy who only plays once in a while? Do we actually believe there are not ANY good Tackles out there that can play all 17 for less than the millions we are paying TS?

Look, I totally respect Tyron Smith. He WAS a great player. But just don’t understand why so many think we have to keep him because we can’t do any better. A guy who has missed 44 games in 6 seasons.
Breakup can be hard. I think many hold onto past play on the field and hope injuries can be put behind. If this was still 13 games played Tyron I think they could find a spot easily. But injuries have far out weighed his contract and playing more than half the season seems questionable now. The only reason I think they could bring him back is because uncertainty with Steele and they'll also have an opening at LG. This is of course he agrees to a payout/restructure.

With Steele tearing both his ACL and MCL (along with McGovern most likely gone, especially to a team that wants him at RG instead of LG) Tyron probably gets one more year.

Probably starts the year at RT and then when Steele comes back, they can either rotate series or try to move Smith back to LT.

If they do end up trading or cutting him, they'd need to be really proactive since tackle is an important position (draft a tackle in the first 2 rounds and then get a real swing tackle aka not josh ball). The only issue with that is the front office doesn't really like drafting possible starters at positions where they believe they already have the franchise starters (so if they truely believe the Tyler Smith Terrence Steele tackle combo is the future then do you draft a guy that early to possibly ride the bench ?)

It’s 10 mil, the other 3 you pay anyway. But I get your point. What you do there depends a bunch on Steele. If Steele is gonna missed several games the cost could be worth it
If Steele could be ready to start the season maybe not. But quality depth is becoming more and more important. The lack of it likely cost the bengals a Super Bowl trip

If he's willing to take a team friendly paycut I'd keep him. If not trade him. Have to think the Rams or Bengals would be all over that. I don't know how much the money means to him, don't know much about his personality...has he ever spoken?

Have to keep him if Steele isn't going to be ready to start the yr. Think they need to go to him for a paycut or turn money into a sb.

Right. That way, we don't have the problem of needing to address tackle and are able to address other situations. We'll see how it plays out, but Tyron has to consider his own ability to be available.

His salary is $13.6M next year. None of it is guaranteed so you save the whole amount cutting him. He has $8M in dead money from restructures that would still need to hit. Either $8M next year or $4M the next two years if post 6/1 which would be the way they do it. So if cut post 6/1 we save $13.6M next year.

You are correct

That's the con, just never know with his body now.

He already gets paid peanuts, no way he takes a cut.

Dallas can't handle losing Tyron and Zeke in the locker room, not in the same year.

Zeke will be gone, Tyron will come back (only 33) along with Peters.

Tyron Smith LT, Tyler Smith G, Biadaz C, Z.Martin, T Steele

J Peters as the swing, McGovern will probably walk as a FA.

Money doesn’t mean much to Tyron. He’s had some dirty family folks stealing his money when he first got paid.
