i watched the replay last night....

by the way .......we should of won that game going away.

on the play where baskett scored from 87 or whatever yards:

i couldn't believe watkins did not make the tackle when i watched it sunday.
however after watching a certain angle on the replay last night i found out why.

he tried to punch the ball out instead of wrapping him up like your supposed to. i hate when a defensive player tries to punch the ball out instead of just making the tackle.

on the flea flicker:

watkins and roy were in perfect position to make the play on the ball.

however after watching a certain angle on the replay last night:

i believe that roy was blinded by the stadium lights much like an outfielder in baseball..... and that watkins was scared roy was fixing to lay out the receiver and himself which temporarily froze him from breaking the pass up..

there was an excellent angle that shows this.

Ahhhh....the old "light was in my eyes" excuse....poor Roy....he should wear a tinted visor at night when the lights are on.

We knew going into this that Watkins is a rookie and we'd see mistakes and missed tackles. We did the same thing last year with Davis and felt the pain - it's part of the growing process.

I just don't get the pass that RW gets on this. He screwed up too and not so much as a peep from Parcell's about it.

Good observation on the first pass, I thought he tried to do that when I saw it the first time.

But on the long pass with Roy, there is no way he could have thought Roy was going to blow him up because Roy for some unexplained reason started backpedaling even though he was several yards behind the WR and the ball. That was one of the worst misplays on a ball in the air I have ever seen.

i'm not making excuses wayne...
it's just the way he looked like he was zeroed in on it and like he was blinded at the last moment.

happens to baseball players all the time.

Yep. There is no way the Cowboys will make mistakes again, nor will their opponent be able take advantage of them.

do you think he could of possibly lost it in the lights?

Roy blew it on that one for sure. But overall he has really picked up his game of pass defense. That does not give him a free pass but I don't see him as being a problem. Watkins is raw and bit too much on both those passes. He blew it on the first and I think he did back off due to Roy on the other one.

I still say for the number of turnovers and mistakes we should have tied the game and from there who knows. So we aren't a weak team. But we have problems.

I would think it's only an excuse to those who like to promote the Roy can't cover agenda.

This was an observation by a fan, and I don't think Roy every made any mention of this. I don't think he's the type of person to make excuses.

why would the lights in roys eye explain why he took such a terrible route to the receiver?

RW didnt play it well, but watch where that ball lands.....it was a perfect throw

McNabb threw the ball better vs us than he has all yr...that might have had something to do with that lousy pass rush thing

again, I dont think it ultimately would have mattered...was he going to jump up and over the WR? if the answer is no, then he probably wasnt going to be able to do anything to defend the pass...it was a good throw

maybe if any of our defenders been within 10 yds of McNabb, they could have forced a poor throw, maybe forced McNabb to look elsewhere to even sacked the QB

honestly though, if roy takes a better route to the ball or watkins even puts his damn arm up the ball is intercepted or at least intercepted. it definitely should not have been a catch. watkins even had his head turned back in perfect position, he just kind of watched the ball into the receivers hands. weird.

Don't know, but my question since it happenend is WHY did he turn and start backpedaling?! What on earth entered his mind to make him do that?!

He was a few yards behind the WR and the ball and he was trying to catch up to them while the ball was in the air. He lost all of his speed and momentum when he suddenly turned and started backpedaling and looking for the ball and the ball ended up coming down 4-5 yards behind him. :banghead:

i honestly dont know what you were watching, even aikman said he thought the ball was gonna be intercepted and aikman never says anything positive for the cowboys on air. just what i saw but that ball shoulda been picked.

at first he had a good route to the receiver........then it went to hell..

maybe roy backed off because he did not want to kill watkins in a collision?

i remember roy damn near killing woodson a couple times his rookie year.

Maybe that is RW's problem. Instead of just making the play, he's always got to go for the big hit...

great point.

i too thought pat would swat or intercept passes away that keith davis could not because of his height and wingspan.

perhaps he will..

i'm almost ready for keith to come back and knock some damn receivers around though.

like Troy mentioned in the game, a good throw beats good coverage everytime. The first time McNabb go deep and Baskett dives and can't hang onto the ball as he hits the ground, Newman had as good of coverage as you can get but McNabb made a perfect throw.

I honestly thought that Roy and Watkins thought they were going to collide. That's why it looked a little more awkward - why guys seemed to slowing up or positioning themselves in a strange way.

Beyond that, McNabb put the ball in a pretty good spot.
