What I think Jerry Jones and Garrett are planning

Let's remind ourselves about the last game Romo played last year (against the Panthers):

He had three interceptions, two of which were returned for touchdowns, and had completed just 11 of 21 passes for 106 yards before he exited. The Cowboys were down 30-6 when Romo left and ended up losing, 33-14.

Let's face it, the Fall of the Romo Empire had already started prior to the arrival of the new barbarians.

Yeah because no other quarterback had trouble against that defense last year.

I guess the one downside they risk in this plan is the more Dak wins, man oh man fans are going to be ticked off if Romo comes in and blows it. Ticked off in epic proportions. Had so many folks at work this week say "I swear if they take Dak out at this point...."

Fans are always ticked off. I don't think they are misleading Dak who himself knows that Romo will return. I suspect Dallas will wait until the Browns game and put Romo in. I don't think Romo will have a long leash, he will have to play quality football if he is to keep the job.

I think next season there will be a full fledge competition for the starting job.

For Tony's sake, they need to use him when he's needed. If he's not needed, then he shouldn't be starting.

Putting in Tony when Dak is playing like this only puts Tony (and the team) in a position to fail.

Dak has an interception and three fumbles the past two games.

But Zeke.......

This is somewhat ridiculous. This is THE 2016 DALLAS COWBOYS. Romo has been the starter for 10 years. To this point, IT'S DAK'S TEAM RIGHT NOW. Would I be happier if Romo wins a ring this year and NOT Dak? Actually No both ways...... I just want the TEAM to win and the deserving QB to run the show.

Just some random thoughts, some of you im sure will disagree who have followed the Cowboys longer. Anyway, Jerry Jones AND Garrett won't commit to Dak even though it is what 80-90% of the fans want. I think they want him to believe he has a shot at the starting job so he continues playing out of this world.

The ENTIRE time, both of these guys have one goal in mind and that is to get Romo a ring. They will continue misleading Dak just to make it to where Romo has to do VERY little work to try to complete this goal. The moment Dak has a bad game down the stretch, in goes Romo.

Now don't get me wrong, I kinda like Dak's statement where he doesn't care who is playing as long as the Cowboys win. While I prefer Dak play, I can go along with this as well as I would be thrilled to see the Cowboys win it all this year.

Anyway, just some random thoughts. Do you guys think this is off base?

I say this still thinking Dak is our only chance to go all the way this year. Why else will they not announce Dak the starter when literally almost everyone wants this?

The only thing "off base" really, is that NO TEAM should make personnel moves to get ANY ONE PLAYER a ring. Simply makes no sense. You make personnel moves to better the team. If you're making personnel moves to "get" a player a ring, you, as a manager are a fool. Having said that, Jerry Jones is involved so anything can happen.

And you think that was a true sample?
really?

let's look at that Panther game and the time leading up to it....

  • Break a collarbone,
  • come back early because the team is panicking from losing every game...even though you are not quite right
  • play a road game against a good defense in Miami...produce a game-winning drive, but clearly not right yet
  • then on a very short week, 3 days rest, play a Panthers defense that is demolishing the entire league
  • get completely battered from the start, play terribly but on a suicide mission
  • re-break collarbone in same spot (oh, what a coincidence)

Yeah, let's choose THAT game out of the 150 he's played.

I'm fine with Dak continuing to start but those choosing those two games from last year after his return as who Romo is now are nuts.

You forgot to mention that Dak also has 2 blowout wins against significant competition the past two games

A 2-4 team and a 3-2 team.

This isn't a bash Dak thread. Love what he's doing.

I think the initial plan was for tony to come back for GB game or after the bye.
But now they have rethought things, since they are 5-1.

If they say Dak is now the starter, then if he has some bad games, it looks bad to then go to Romo.
If they say Tony is coming back against cleveland or later opp and dak keeps winning, then it causes a problem.

So what they are doing is continue with Dak and see how it goes, and make a decision later.

They could also be planning to insert Tony like in next to last game or so, so he can play before playoffs and then be
the playoff qb.
They might even wait till playoffs.

But really it depends on Dak and how he plays, and if he keeps winning and what the record is.

However if they let him go, and he takes this win streak to say 8 or 9 in a row, it will be hard to pull him.
They should win the next 2 which makes 7 so we just have to wait and see what happens.

It's about appeasing to the lynch mob. You ride the wave of momentum and public opinion.

Plus bringing Romo back now would place entirely too much pressure on him and could cause an uproar.

It's easier to wait for Dak to struggle . Then insert Romo to save the day.

Dak or the team isn't going to win out. They will stump somewhere along the way.

You are in the extreme minority after the Packers game.
Ill say it since so many refuse to. THAT packers team wasn't the usual packers team. Injuries hurt them. That said the Boys led by Prescott played a great game. But he's no Romo YET. Romo would have put that game away way way before Dak did. The kids time will come.

Did you consider Romos health before you wrote that?

First off I love Dak but why wouldn't he play his best regardless if he knows Tony might get another shot late in the season? This is his audition to be the man of the future for this team.
