What I would do to fix the Cowboys

I hate the 3-4 and all to often it places our best pass rusher in coverage.

I would welcome a return to the 4 - 3.

1.Cut Wade, bring in Cowher.
2.Trade Barber, and start Felix. He will be our featured back and play 85% of the time.
3.Trade Roy Williams, just do it and start building a dynamic receiving core.
4.Bring in a HUGE MONSTER NT, MINIMUM OF 320PDS, who has talent.
5.Bring in a monster pass rushing OLB.
6.Make Bradie James a second teamer
7.Re-do Newman's contract or trade him.
8.Flat out cut Hamlin.
9.After the "GM" hires Cowher, shut the hell up, get out of his way and allow him to do his thing. Oh yeah, if he wants to cut the entire coaching staff, so be it.
10. Out right cut Folk and bring in a dynamic kick off/ punt returner.

False. Other teams that make the same kinds and amounts of mistakes that Dallas does get murdered. Because of the talent on this roster they overcome a lot of that and are in every ball game.

Wrong. You would need to let Cowher determine for himself who he wants to keep and who he wants to cut and let him do it. In your list, you would be meddling more than Jerry even usually does.

Even though I don't think we are as talented as most seem to think, you do have a point. Especially also when you determine that if ever a coach could get all phases on the same wavelength, it would almost seem like we could be dominant (how many times, when the offense plays great, the defense chokes...or when the defense is playing lights out, the offense struggles. It seems to happen every single game. If the Offense scores a TD, you KNOW the defense will all of a sudden break down and let the opponent score an answer even if they have shut them down repeatedly before that, or vice versa)

First thing I do is drive StayPuff and Tecmo to the bus station and tell them its been real.

Second thing I do is start releasing players that are infected with the suck virus so as to not infect the rest of the team. See Shakapotamus, Ken Hamlin, Bobby Carpenter, Sensabaugh, Bradie James, T-Toast, McQuiston, Proctor, and Flozel Adams.

Third thing I do is hire Dungy as a "consultant" to do a full evaluation of the defense to determine if we should keep the 34 or go back to the 43. Dungy is a defensive guru, so I probably do what he advises.

Fourth, based on what Dungy says, I start a head coach search in earnest and I let the new coach hand pick his entire staff. I would try to avoid retreads and maybe concentrate of finding a young and upcoming assistant that actually knows what the hell is going on, unlike Tecmo.


Thats what I would do, hopefully the transition period would not take longer than 2 or 3 seasons before we get over the hump and start becoming a legit playoff contender year in and year out.

Couldn't agree more. A quality coach gets the most out of his talent and Wade's team is playing below their talent level. Dallas is solid in almost every group on both sides of the ball. Not a lot of depth except at RB and QB but starters have as much talent all around as almost any team in the league.

Dallas starts way too many drives in 1st and long due to penalties. 3rd and long due to penalties and bad play calling. Garrett keeps calling off tackle runs on 2nd and 10? The coaching staff only got Austin more involved due to injury not some revelation in game or practice. Austin didn't become the player he has shown 6 games in to the season all of the sudden. Jones needs the ball in his hands on about 15-20 runs and about 5-10 receptions (flares, screens etc......).

Shanahan in his last years had a talentless team after Elway retired. When he coached they were a disciplined team that always produced. I like Cowher but he isn't going to coach for Jones.

We need a OG and maybe a Center,too (get younger and better on the OL)
We need to find a replacement for Flo' (2nd or 3rd rounder in draft)
We need a CB to take Newman's place down the round ( is Scandrick the guy?)
We need one more LB who can rush the passer ( This comes up every year-is this guy on the roster now?)

We need FS to push Hamlin, if he comes back.

The guy who offenses consistenly ranked in the bottom half of the league every year?

Anyone who mentions Gruden as a possible replacement immediately renders all other suggestions meaningless.

One thing I saw mentioned here that I agree with, but keep forgetting to mention myself in other threads, is getting more team speed. We have some fast guys, to be sure, but we need to upgrade the overall team speed.
