What I would do with Claiborne after the season

I figured we would offer him something similar to what we offered mike Jenkins. I don't remember Jenkins being injury prone but I may be wrong. Also using the franchise tag on Claiborne shouldn't be an option. I know we used it at least once on Jenkins.

Slight off topic question:

Jenkins vs Claiborne for their overall body of work of their ENTIRE tenure with the team, who ya got?
Jenkins

Keep him. He is turning out good. A tear in the abdominal wall will heal with proper care and rest but without rest and care can be career ending. I feel one of the reasons he came back strong is because he had a lot of rest to heal previous injuries and I believe those are behind him. He gave it is all and played hard and he can do it again with proper healing.

Give him a Sean Lee deal. Playing time incentives with the ability to get out of it.

With another injury he is going to hard pressed to find a better long term deal elsewhere and that type of deal would be better for him then another 1 year deal

Yes ^^^^^^^^ This guy gets it.

Thats a tough call. I think they went in opposite directions Jenkins started off well and his play seemed to worsen, Mo is the opposite. I also dont think Jenkins put together a stretch of games at as high of a level as Mo played this year.

Considering the lack of CB depth in the league, someone's going to pay him and pay him handsomely despite his injury history. Jmo.

You just got promoted to GM.

If you are going to do that deal, you do it NOW while he is hurt. It sends a "we care about you and want you message" to the player and the fact he is actually injured when it is being negotiated justifies the pay for play contract. It also gives MO some security. Win/Win for the player and the team.

I actually hope he gets that. Unfortunately he doesn't even have the track record of Sean Lee (to the upside) when Sean signed that incentivized deal. Don't know if you can say he has he body of work to structure something more compelling than another one year deal. I hope he's able to get something multiyear - even if it's from another franchise. The kid has persevered and shown guts - which is enough (channeling Full Metal Jacket drill sergeant there).

I fear that he might be forced into another prove it deal depending on the long-term prognosis of his health. Fingers crossed.

I would sign him to mid tier money, not top quarter due to his injury history. I would sign him to mid tier money and give him incentives that would pay him like a top quarter CB. If he plays then he will get paid like a top quarter player.

Yeah...I am following the logic...we essentially did the same thing with Hardy's one-year deal and of course Sean Lee's contract structure, which has been mentioned in this discussion. Again, I just hope for Mo's sake that the FO has "seen enough" to give him that opportunity...I personally think they have but I also think it will be predicated on the severity of the injury and the prognosis of his full recovery and thus their POV on his long-term dependability...I think Mo deserves such an offer but it's also true the players who've received tiered deals that can POTENTIALLY pay them at elite level (e.g., Hardy and Lee) had much more caché at the time of their offers than Mo has...in other words, Mo hasn't amassed that type of pedigree at this point (accolades, stats, etc.) It's not like he's led (or been near the top of) the league in any notable way, etc. As I've stated, I am pulling for the guy.

That's not bad. They're not guaranteed. If he's playing like a top 15 corner, it's a bargain. If not, we can cut him. I like it.
Someone gets it......Mo has played like a top10 CB......we would be getting him cheap

We need to replace 3/5ths of the secondary...can't do it with draft picks

Yeah, but who starts in his place the other six or seven games of the season?

It is a long season....players get dinged up......that is what the draft is for but you keep your producers

Based on seven good games in five years? With this injury, Mo is averaging fewer games per season than Sean Lee.

I have revised my offer down to 5 yrs and 35m with 17m guaranteed

He has earned a big raise and this is basically a two year deal with 3 option years

Signing bonus 10m
2017...... 1m
2018...... 3m
2019.......3m base 9m option bonus
2020.......4m
2021.......5m

"Only" 17 million guaranteed to a player who hasnt played a single complete season

Wow

I don't know what to tell you guys......top CBs get paid and this offer is less than the middle range....it would be 24th in the league

Mo's play has improved greatly....you can rate him on his past draft status or judge him by the last 2 years..... I know I have done a 180 on him
