Thats a lot of ifs.

This team is in more than a soft rebuild and trying to figure out the easiest way to separate themselves from Dak and France.
Yeah that's the problem here,

we have now have 14 days that's basically two weeks of official free agency period down with six months left it before game 1...

It is very probable that a lot of that list does get taken care of whether it's those players or others once the draft happens, they want a better idea who to go after both via free agency, there's a big pool of really good talent still left ,and some trades... you can make trades all the way up to the trade deadline but let's be real you can still put a very good roster together in the next six months versus the fan expectations thinking it all gets done in the first two weeks...
So while that list that he posted up there may not get fulfilled by the exact names, I guarantee they have a list like that for every position that after the draft they will make a lot more moves.

Moves that may not be the ones that fans wanted but we can judge those players after the seasons over and not before I've heard the historically bad offseason not since that ended in the second round of the playoffs that year that that word was being thrown around ,

and now even earlier saying it's the terrible worst most ridiculous offseason ever, yeah two weeks and of course it looks like that...

The only reason it is “maddening” and “confusing “ is because people are unwilling to read the writing on the wall and to admit that the Joneses are usually fairly transparent. So let remove the cobwebs

1. We will sign lower tier FA or mid tier ones if they come at s discount because this is the year for resetting the books

2. Cowboys will not resign Dak unless he wins at least 2 playoff games. Im sure they have talked trade but im equally sure Dak is unwilling to get off this gravy train.

3. If by some miracle Lance plays at a high level then MM stays otherwise he is gone and Zimmer is in next year

There’s a very real option 3: the team fails and finishes 9-8, McCarthy is fired, dak is extended, a new coach is brought in and “daks a big reason why” according to Jerry.
If this happens and MM is fired.......I think Jerry would have to make Dak one hell of an offer to stop him from testing the market. I suppose he could give Jerry a chance to match his best offer.

Remember something similar with Cousins and Commanders after they tagged him twice. He was so ticked off ( mainly Bruce Allen) that he refused to consider ANY offer from the Commanders.

2 games
Wild card and divisional = NFCCG
or
Divisional and NFCCG= Super Bowl

If this happens, I can see Dak pricing himself out of Jerry's range. I can also see him giving Jerry the finger and moving on.

It is maddening to try and figure out the logic of what the Cowboys front office is doing this year.
They are not relying totally on past form nor are they really merging into new "All-In" lanes.
They say they are simply willing to play out the season, pay Dak 55M this year on the cap and 40M next year to hit unrestricted free agency.
--at which point he becomes the most expensive NFL property to hit free agency in history. DAL gets an R3 comp pick in 2026.
So how does this make any sense?

They'd surely be better off paying Dak a super-premium 60M but removing trade restrictions. Right?
They'd be better off asking his agent if they could find a team NOW to trade for an R1 right? Dak gets his extension, picks his team, DAL gets an R1 now to pick one of the 5 R1 rated QBs this year and clears 25M in cap space.

So what else could it be?

Well what if it is just Jerry poker and Jerry lies?
What if they are going to extend Dak and all sides know it?
They have the deal basically worked out.
Then they would know how much cap cash they will have in a month?
And a week after the draft they could announce signings with no cost to the comp pool Stephen holds dear.
They could then have agreements already with agents/players right?

Say, if Connor Williams doesn't get a deal for more than 30M over 3 years he agrees he will sign in Dallas and moves back home.
What if Calais Campbell wants to finish on a good team and sees Zimmer as the kind of coach he can work with?
What if Donovan Smith has talked to MM about providing LT cover.
What if Zeke knows the deal with Dak and is content to simply retire in Dallas as the short yardage and blocking back realizing there are no big pay days left? .
What if OBJ has been basically ignoring people because he wants to finally tag along on the Cowboys bandwagon as that playoff playmaker?

This team could go from dead in water to loaded for a title run still.

It won't but it could.
And maybe it should.
What they are is flexible. They will see how the draft plays out and go from there. They will be good enough to stay in it and have some money and picks to make deals before the trade deadline if needed.

Lots of hypotheticals here......................who knows what Jerry has planned, this entire offseason has made no sense at all.

I think this is going to end with one of two options.......

Option 1
**Dak plays the entire season w/o extension and leads this team to NFCCG and /or Super Bowl. If this happens, fans need to be ready coz there's no way Jerry will let him walk. He will make Dak the richest contract offer in league history to keep him ( $65-70M ). He can justify it coz Dak would have done the unthinkable...... led the team to a Super Bowl with very little talent around him.

Option 2
Dak plays the entire season w/o extension and the team falls short. No playoff or one-and-done. If this happens, he's done. They will let him walk w/o an offer.
But they gutted the roster?

Seems like they have chosen option 2 and are doing everything to make sure it comes true................a self-fulfilling prophecy.

Why gut the roster in order to make sure Dak doesn't make a deep playoff run so you can get rid of him and in the process throw an entire season in the crapper?

That is not logical and is as close to an intentional tank job as it gets in the NFL.

Occam's Razor. The simplest answer is probably the right one. I think after the SF games and finally the Green Bay playoff game they decided there is no way they are giving Dak another bag. 2024 is a mulligan to purge the contract.
Why not just release him and start the rebuild this year?

Makes absolutely no sense to gut the roster, tank the season, and then let your QB hit free agency next season.

Besides, here is the problem. Dak is good enough to beat the trash teams in the East and split with the Eagles. So there is a chance, even with a gutted roster, Dak can still win you 7 or 8 games. Then you are picking right in the middle of the draft, the worst place to be. Not good enough to contend, but good enough that you miss out on a high draft pick.

Leave it to the Cowboys to even screw up a tank job, what a bunch of idiots.

We like Bo Nix and Pratt. We worked out each guy 3 times. Shottenheimer was doing the drills. Would we dare at 24?

Just a thought nugget that I haven't seen asked. IF the plan is to let Dak walk after the season and use this year to help clean up the cap mess....

Why add void years and prorated the 5 million he got this year? They just pushed 4 mil onto next years dead cap. They could have just chosen one of the other available ways to gain a few mil this year.

Probably because of the dead money. Think they are done with Dak but they figure $40 million next year is a lot easier than $95 million over two years... that's probably why they brought back the HC. Also guys like Zach, Tank, etc getting towards the end.

One last hurrah to save face on the insane Dak contract. The rebuild has already started, lots of "their guys" left and they usually don't let that happen. .

No.
Pick Nix at 56 if he drops that far.
If Cowboys trade out of the first round and pick up a second 3rd round pick - use that to select Pratt.

It is maddening, but there is no logic with Daddy&Son. And I do fully expect them to extend Dak. This isn't so much a rebuild as a total takeover with Cap Boy at the helm. Think you've seen cheap with Jerry? We ain't seen nothing yet. The penny-pinching of Cap Boy and the stupidity of Jerry. That's a combo of terror, and our days of overachieving are at an end.

you think that’s loaded?
First off, no that doesn’t happen in the NFL the way you laid it out. On the players, I like Campbell, but he will be 38 by the start of the season. Connor Williams is OK. The rest are backups. That doesn’t even get us back to where we were last year, let alone make us loaded for a title run.
