nothing else better to do, might as well do this!!He was PFF's 31st rated DT. . So it makes obvious sense for Dallas to pay him like a top 5 DT bc that's what we do.

are you kidding me like seriously, he spent the MOST money last off season by signing our star QB to a huge deal, and he himself was surprised we didn't make the Superbowl because of this, the guy is amazingJerry is the one taking the gamble. Jerry bets on himself all the time. And loses much more than he wins.
When was the last time he won anyway?
He lost both bets on that one, again.are you kidding me like seriously, he spent the MOST money last off season by signing our star QB to a huge deal, and he himself was surprised we didn't make the Superbowl because of this, the guy is amazing
that's fine, but WHO WERE WE GOING TO REPLACE HIM WITH,and he did something obviously for them to give him the money, he showed them somethingHe lost both bets on that one, again.
0-2 on QB contract extensions.
How much has our QB got between those 2 contracts, and what do we have to show for it.
An injured QB ever since. Kind of like his predecessor. Which he also was what, 0-2 on.
I mean that is probably what will happen, and its exactly why fans scream from the rooftops to start negotiations early. We are talking about OSA and Parsons, but really we should also be talking about guys like Tyler Smith and Daron Bland. I know you cant always sign guys early and it takes both sides, but this is just the norm for the Cowboys. OSA and Parsons should have gotten done a year ago.And then you're going to pay Parsons?
I have no doubt that number will be in the 35+ neighborhood.
If you tag him you wont be eligible for the comp pick.Well first you’d have to assume DT had somewhere close to the negotiating power of a QB. Since they don’t, tag him with the option to negotiate with other teams. Let them set the market and match if it’s reasonable or take the picks!
The DL is hanging around the rim, really. The guy is the anchor of the worst DL in the NFL. I don't care what it takes. We need to sign him!
If the defense was any good, you might have a point. This was a bottom 5 defense ....... bottom 5 run defense. Pouring more money into the same guys doesn't improve the team. We should be taking that 21M and spreading it around one the worst defensive units in cowboy history. We need a reboot not a rehash. As much as I love PFF I think you have to be careful about just looking at the rankings. Their DI rankings put a lot of different positions into one category....3T, 1T, 3-4 Ends, etc. so 31st isnt as bad as it sounds...plus if you filter out guys who arent getting starter snaps (probably 500 or more) he's probably moving up a few spots.
If you go by just the actual grades OSA is within about 5 points of guys like Jalen Carter, Madubuike, Quinnen Williams, Ed Oliver, Vea, etc. We need to see what actual contract numbers look like. Obviously the tag will put him in top 5 money, but if the $21-22M range is accurate hes probably in that 10-13 range by AAV, around 17th if you go by % of the cap. I don't think that is too far off.
2 1st round picks as compensation for the non exclusive tag I ain’t gonna be too worried about not getting a comp pick!If you tag him you wont be eligible for the comp pick.
I think that "ring" is a drain not a basketball hoop. The DL is hanging around the rim, really.
An interior that gets pushed around.
An undersized left DE that runs around like a possessed idiot, getting caught out of position, creating soft corners to run on and lanes for QBs to escape into.
What more could we want?
He’s a legitimate building block. Not getting him signed has ramifications other than a final compensation amount. Osa showed up all season and performed. There are 52 other guys watching what the Cowboys do about his next contract, countless potential Cowboys players and their respective agents watching how the Cowboys handle his next contract.True. but to command a franchise tag salary cap burden i ask. ," would he be a starter on any of the top 10 defenses?"......because he'll be paid like one
They had a guy, but Jerry messed that one up also.that's fine, but WHO WERE WE GOING TO REPLACE HIM WITH,and he did something obviously for them to give him the money, he showed them something
Upgrade the actual bad players then. The two years prior this defense was top 5 in points allowed, top 5 in yards allowed in 2023. I get the run defense was still bad those years, but get an actual 1T in here, stop lining up Parsons in 4/4I techniques on run downs, bring in NFL quality LBs, etc. I completely understand OSA isnt a great run player, but he is far from the root cause of why this defense cant stop anyone on the ground. If the defense was any good, you might have a point. This was a bottom 5 defense ....... bottom 5 run defense. Pouring more money into the same guys doesn't improve the team. We should be taking that 21M and spreading it around one the worst defensive units in cowboy history. .
No one is giving up 2 1st round picks for OSA lol...that is a waste of time and no team will be bidding for his services. I thought you meant hit him with the transition tag.2 1st round picks as compensation for the non exclusive tag I ain’t gonna be too worried about not getting a comp pick!
Right! No one is giving up 2 1st round picks for OSA lol...that is a waste of time and no team will be bidding for his services. I thought you meant hit him with the transition tag.
Sort of....Between the $25M security blanket of the tag and players having money to afford injury insurance I think these players have more power than we think they do. I do agree with you in general though that if Jerry presents a reasonable offer OSA will likely take it, $60M in guaranteed money is still better than the $25M on the tag. I just hope it does drag out for months giving Jerry an excuse to not pursuit FAs.Playing on the tag, risking career ending injury becomes less appealing when you realize you don’t have negotiating power you thought!
I agree completely...The OSA issue is more a result of the Cowboys not managing the cap well for years now and their roster building philosophy that tends to reject the need for depth. I think many are scarred to bring OSA back because we know that Jerry/Stephen will consider the position addressed instead of looking for another DT to rotate in free agency or the draft. The owner put us in the position where Osa's contract is a problem.
But it's not OSA that is the problem. It's the string of high dollar, low reward contracts that came before him.
Now we're arguing about deciding between the lesser of two evils.
