What if the Cowboys had ZERO draft picks

So, the gang INSISTS on highjacking the thread, and turning into a "bash Garrett" thread. Got it.

With this current roster, I honestly think someone like BB, Zimmer, and even Pederson could make a deep run into the playoffs.

Do you think the Cowboys can be competitive (i.e., compete for a Super Bowl) with the following lineup?

OFFENSE - 24 players
QB - Dak Prescott, Cooper Rush
RB - Ezekiel Elliott, Rod Smith, Trey Williams
FB - Jamize Olawale
TE1 - Jason Witten, Rico Gathers
TE2 - James Hanna, Geoff Swaim
WR1 - Dez Bryant, Noah Brown
WR2 - Allen Hurns, Terrance Williams, (Deonte Thompson)
WRS - Cole Beasley, Ryan Switzer,
LT - Tyron Smith, Chaz Green
LG - La'el Collins, Marcus Martin
C - Travis Frederick, Joe Looney
RG - Zack Martin, (Marcus Martin)
RT - Cameron Fleming (Chaz Green)

DEFENSE - 25 players
LDE - DeMarcus Lawrence, Taco Charlton
3-tech DT - David Irving, Datone Jones, Lewis Neal
1-tech DT - Maliek Collins, Brian Price
RDE - Tyrone Crawford, Randy Gregory, Charles Tapper
WLB - Sean Lee, (Jaylon Smith), Tre'von Johnson
MLB - Joe Thomas, (Jaylon Smith)
SLB - Jaylon Smith, Damien Wilson, Justin March-Lillard
LCB - Byron Jones, Anthony Brown
RCB - Chidobe Awuzie, Marquez White
SCB - Jourdan Lewis, Duke Thomas
SS - Kavon Frazier, Jeff Heath
FS - Xavier Woods, (Jeff Heath), (Byron Jones)

Specialists - 4 players
PK - Dan Bailey
P - Chris Jones
LS - L.P. Ladouceur
PR/KR - Deonte Thompson, (Ryan Switzer)

Based on this roster, where are the weakest spots?

No they can't

QB is a question mark
The supposed strength (OL) has holes at RT and LG
Need starters at 1T DT, MLB, FS and SS
Need depth at LB
Need a PR/KR
No idea how the WR core will shake out i.e. Adequate or not

Not good enough, not deep enough. Holes at OT3 and at LB would do us in over the course of a full season.

I do care about being competitive, for the record. It’s silly not to. Humans are capable of assigning priorities to the things they care about, and being competitive is a precondition for win in championships, so I’d prefer to be competitive.

Well, you and others successfully got the thread moved into the DRAMA ZONE; so, what I thought was a good thought exercise on building a roster was completely and totally trashed.
free safety is our biggest need. IMO. Sorry you're sad.

Watching the last SB and seeing great coaching staffs make certain decisions at critical times has really reinforced how limited we are with Garrett. If we're being honest, we (the Cowboys) are not even in the same league. Theres no debate.

It’s easily debatable.

I agree with that assessment. The most glaring holes are exactly what you identified. Backup RB3 is another hole.

LB seems glaringly weak.

We are weak at LB, DT, one DE spot, and safety. Nothing is certain at CB either although ai like some of the young guys. And you can throw in depth at all those positions. On offense we are weak at receiver and one guard position. We are also weak at TE and backup RB.

Anyone can debate. Its on how much people will laugh at you when you do. Its times like this where you imply that Garrett is on par with these type of coaches that you sink too low.

No wonder you are happy. 8-8 is about what you get out of Garrett at the end of the day. If that is what you like then I see why Garrett is your man.

You think Garrett would've let Linehan call the same trick play on 4th down at the goal line? Or would he have went with the FG?

It's no wonder everyone has our number. It's bland, predictable, football. I'm not asking for anything fancy and magical - just something to keep the opposing D's second guessing. We don't have that element.

Garrett didnt start taking risks until the last 2 games of season.

I don’t consider risk taking necessarily the hallmark of good coaching, but, yeah, we took our shots when we had to. The OAK game, for example.

Pederson and his coaching got that team to 7-9 in 2016. He didn’t suddenly learn how to coach last year. He got better players.
