WHAT IF: Tony Romo continues to slump?

Ok, don't throw me in the fire for this one. It's just for conversation.

Let's say the unlikely happens ... and Tony Romo does an Eli Manning impression, and continues to slump the remainder of the season.

What do you think our options at QB would be for next year?

Granted, Romo should be given every chance to win back his starting QB position, but there's a fair likelihood one or two more QB's would be brought in to challenge him for the spot.

Honestly, I don't see any FA QB's worth bringing in, other than for a backup.

But what if a solid QB falls to us in the draft? Do we pull the trigger? Not that a rookie QB would be able to start for us. But the option may be available.

More importantly, what happens if our D continues to give up 42 points a game.

Doesn't matter if we have Brady, Peyton or Elway/Aikman/Favre/Marino in their prime at that point.

I really do think that would all depend on the Coach as much as it depends on what happens here on out.

There is just not enough film on Tony Romo yet. We dont know if the guy that has played lights out is the guy or the guy that has played hoe-hum the last two games is the guy.

I think the only chance we draft a QB high (if available) is if Parcells doesn't come back.

That happened one time.

What if BP has a heart attack?
What if TO punches out BP?
What if Romo punches out TO?
What if TO takes dump on the star?
What if we get invaded by the Martians?

blah,blah, blah..

That is part of the reason to see what we have in Tony now IMO.

If it does not work out than we move to FA or the Draft.

Even if that is just a situation where you do that in case he continues to struggle next year.

I know people will rag on you for asking. Partially because nobody wants to think of that scenario and partially because you have been known as a negative poster.

But I do think it is an idea to talk about.

I don't see the Saint's debacle being repeated.

I don't see any chance of us drafting a QB during the 1st day of the draft come next April.

There will be no QB drafted in round one, no matter who drops....Tony Romo is now the future of the Dallas Cowboys...he's the starter all season and for next season.

He showed more than enough to prove he can be an elite QB. He's still a first year starter for pete's sake...even if he slumps now and into next year, that's part of the learning curve...he showed what he can do, and that's more than we've seen from any QB in years.

Forget QB no matter how Romo finishes this season....he's our QB.

Regardless how Romo does I would still look at drafting a young QB and getting a vet in here to backup Romo and yes I would continue on with Romo next season I think his play deserves that much.

Thanks Mike G.

Maybe I'm making the same assumptions about the D that the original poster did about Romo continuing to slump.

Hence it wouldn't matter who the QB is.

Hence my list of HOF QB's.

Didn't the Giants/Philly score 38/36 on us?

Exactly.

Romo starts next year.

I agree with that but it won't happen before the 5th round.

Tony Romo has shown enough that says he can perform at high level in this league. Undoubtedly, he will go throw tough stretches (just like Grossman in Chicago). But the key is to stay with him and support him. If Quincy Carter can be given 3 years to show what he can do....then Romo should be given about 5 years based on what I see on the field. Not to make this a comparision between Quincy and Romo...but what I saw over the past month from Romo was better than anything I have seen since Aikman.

Exactly.

We made Bledsoe the starter after the crappy last two years he had in Buffalo.

Based upon what Romo has done 5 years is probably a little short! LOL! He deserves about 10.

I see a lot of knee-jerk reaction based upon one game-- that quite frankly was much more the fault of the defense than it was Romo.

A more suitable thread would be: "If Roy Williams continues to slump will we bring in a young player to challenge him next year".

I'm pulling for Romo to have a big day against the Falcons.

I think you're right ... regardless of his play for the remainder of the season, he's shown he deserves the right to compete for the starting position next year.

Doesn't mean we shouldn't bring in some competition. But any big name FA QB will cost bucks. Then again, Harrington and Ramsey were available for cheap.

Not that they would be upgrades, but alittle competition is good for everyone.

It's nice knowing QB is no longer a pressing issue. But no reason to ignore one in the draft if one falls to us. Better than drafting a punt returner. :)

I think there are far more pressing issues in the first round. At this point I wouldn't be suprised if Owens did not return. And in that case a WR would be a major need.

And with what the pass rush is doing (or not doing) another DE may be a good thing.

And I don't even want to talk about O-line or the secondary.

According to a report Dallas has brought in Tommy Maddox for a workout as a possible 3rd string
