If we had drafted DeMarcus some would have a totally different attitude but why? Micah is 4 pounds lighter, one inch shorter, but much faster than DeMarcus 4.6 versus 4.39 at their Pro Days. Micah played at Penn State versus Troy. He can add some strength, get coached up, and learn the trade and could be the best player on this team in two years and maybe the most productive player drafted in 2021 period. Not drinking the Kool Aid just looking at the player as he is going to be used. Not a base 4/3 LB which is arguably antiquated in 2021. LB's make 3/4's DL's make a 4/3's. The draft and talent clearly tell us where we are going. We drafted the most impactful player unless one of the QB's end up Aikman or Elway.

This draft was like Parcell's DeMarcus draft, traits versus talent to fit a 3/4 system. The base 3/4 I forecast Parson and Lawrence will be on the outside, the two best of the other four LB's inside, Brent Urban and Neville Gallimore/Trysten Hill (don't be surprised it's not the Tony Tolbert clone Golston) at the 5's, and Antwan Woods at the NT. The secondary will work itself out based on the Quinn view. This will be a much better defense next year and a totally different one to prepare for than the chaos we had last year or the plain vanilla the previous years.

This kid has athletic traits and the production at the highest college level to back it up like few if any before him. Few RT's are going to have a chance with him once he figures it out.

Exactly, and this kid has more in the tank than DeMarcus started with.

Odd comparison because the players aren't anything alike

The players size and makeup are totally alike with Parsons being the more gifted physically. How Penn State and Troy used them was totally different. Used the same way as Parcells used Ware, Parsons can have similar or I argue potentially better results.

Ware had the unusual ability to get at an angle to the ground that he was almost impossible to block and I've not seen another pass rusher do it like he did.

Parsons is more of a 4/3 LB, not a 3/4 pass rushing LB, that's actually more down the pipe for Smith than Parsons.

    It's
It's Gaelic, we were Scot royalty until the Brits booted us out. Too bad because our lands included St Andrews.

When Ware made the late surge and shot up draft boards there were plenty of Cowboy fans crying that we didn't get Merriman. Lol

It is funny how adamant people become with these draft picks. I'm guilty of having favorites as well, but I acknowledge how often I'm wrong.

Personally I wanted the LB corps rebuilt badly. I couldn't watch another season of swiper making bad reads and celebrating while we are down 3 tds. All the while LVE is on the sideline wearing street clothes. Don't get me wrong. I still hope those guys turn it around this year, but Parsons is the lead dawg now. Love it.

While at troy demarcus ware used to ride his bike to workouts, meetings, practice. If I remember correctly it was a pretty good ride. He was loved by coaches and teammates. He is one of the nicest guys ever to play in the nfl. He did everything with joy and a smile. That smile will be on display soon in the hall of fame.

Parsons punched a teammate in the face and stuck his ding dong in another teammate butt to haze him.

I think you can end the comparisons.

If Parsons played last year...he would have went top 5.

    No doubt.

I don't recall the fan reaction to Demarcus Ware's selection, but If you look at the 2004 roster, there was a glaring need for a pass rush on the outside and Parcells wanted players for his 3-4 defense. Also, the Cowboys had 2 first round picks that year. In retrospect, Parcells really messed up that draft because he took Marcus Spears, a second DE, in the first when future HoF QB Aaron Rodgers was available. The Cowboys QBs that year were Drew Bledsoe, Drew Henson, and undrafted Tony Romo. That could be the single biggest draft blunder in Cowboys history, edging out the Randy Moss debacle.

The more I look at the Parcells years the less of think of him as a HC. He was the product of George Young's personnel expertise.

Just imagine if we took Shawn Merriman instead of Ware.
    Now that's a scary thought

Ware had a lightening first step that it was so fast that even the refs would call him off sides because he was in the backfield before the qb had the ball. Refs would call him offsides even though he was not.

DeMarcus Ware had 27.5 sacks in college. Parsons had 6.5. I like the pick, but I don't know how much he's going to be used as a pure linebacker and how much he is going to rush the passer. The pass rusher has more draft value.

If the plan is to use him as an OLB in essentially a 3-4 front like Ware, then he does have more value. However, I don't know if our 3-4 is going to be a traditional 3-4 because I don't see Lawrence as an OLB. However, he may be designated as one (even though he'd be playing end) with Parsons at OLB and three linemen (Gallimore/Ghoulson, Bohanna/Wood, Osa/Hill). I'd assume with that our "inside" linebackers would primarily be LVE and Smith, with Neal/Cox taking over when we go nickel/dime.
