The Leftwich question was posed above....I was a huge Leftwich homer when he came out, and was disappointed we selected Newman over the player whom I believed to be a sure-thing franchise quarterback.
He's been pretty solid and has his team in the playoffs, but his durability is a major concern to me. He's still a young man, yet can't stay healthy. If he was here -- especially behind this offensive line -- I'm not sure how long he would be lasting. He's already missed, I believe, 8 games in three seasons, missing the most this year (5).
Julius' durability has been one of his biggest weaknesses, and I think the ability to stay healthy is a measuring stick given to a lot of young players. So far, Leftwich isn't passing that test with flying colors.
My concern would be that, as he continues to get older, will his body wear down even more potentially leading to his skills more quickly eroding?
As for Brunell, call me jaded, but I think Santana Moss's presence has really made him this year. Moss has been the league's best receiver this side of Steve Smith. Brunell seems to struggle with accuracy on a weekly basis, but always bails himself out by heaving it deep -- which he does an excellent job of, since he throws a great deep ball.
Terry Glenn is a nice receiver, but he doesn't have Moss' raw speed and knack for adjusting to the deep ball IMO. Glenn doesn't appear to me as the sort of receiver to bail a quarterback out and Moss, despite his size, can do that. I think if Brunell were here, we'd be seeing last year's version on a more consistent basis given what we have at receiver.
