I think you're wrong on this one. I thought we were going to give QC every chance to keep his job and Vinny was nothing but insurance. I remember reading that on dallascowboys.com, that Vinny wasn't brought in to be the starter. Maybe that was just an excuse after we had that terrible season by the writers, looking for an explanation.

Guys, you got a problem with a moderator, take it to PMs. There's also a guideline about publicly questioning mod actions.

Can I get a link before this post gets deleted?

Its not that I doubt you; its that I just don't remember it.
I am the only source for that info on the site, but I got it from inside VR, for whatever it is worth. I have said this before. It isn't the first time I've posted it.

The pot had nothing to do with him being released though it certainly may have hastened it. He had returned to some habits that were destructive to his worth besides drugs.

That's fine. I may not have been around when you've said it before, hence why it was the first time I have heard of it.

I was just hoping for an article or something so I could read more about it.

Well i obviously don't have inside access. I just know what I read and is reported. I just remember a Spags article specifically after the season that as an excuse/explanation for the terrible season was "remember, Vinny wasn't brought in to be the starter, but thinks to QC he was forced into the role" or along those lines.

Spags is mr company line so I wouldn't always believe every word he says.

Can't argue with the specific reason he was cut.

Whatever the reason, it was something that happened after the 2003 season that he lead us to the playoffs.
It did come as a shock to just about everyone.

Point I was making is that we would have been at risk of losing Romo before we even knew what we had.

I don't work for the Cowboys nor do I know anybody who does. All I can do is read what reporters report and make a judgment call on what I witness. Cutting QC so soon into TC is a definate fact that he was on a very short leash after Vinny was signed (if the plan was for him to be cut all along, I don't know). However I know I've seen about a dozen articles on "what if QC hadn't smoked himself out the door, Romo probably would have never made the team" also. I just don't think we'd sign Vinny for the soul purpose of replacing the QB we just went to the playoffs with. If that was true, all those Parcells jokes about only wanting his past players, aren't funny anymore, they're just sadly true.

I do wish an article could back me up. If anyone doubts it I understand. I stand by it.

Why was Vinny happy to come where he "had a chance to compete" if Carter was the de facto starter?

What if all of our Cowboys heroes were immortal and could continue to play in their primes forever under a never aging Tom Landry. We would never lose and we win the SB every year.

Oh wait, that's just how it is in my head. Sorry.

...and on my XBOX NFL2K5 Cowboys franchise. :)

I doubt that Bledsoe would have been able to reverse his miscues enough so in order to prevent Romo from taking his place. He might have been able to delay it somewhat, but he was starting to slide pretty badly by the time he was benched.
I agree 100%

IMO, it was clear that Bledsoe should have been pulled after the first loss to the Eagles (the 4th game of the season). Romo should have started Game 5 vs. the Texans.

If you heard me yelling at the TV in Game-1 vs the Jags you would know that is when he should have been pulled, according me anyway.

So much for your source.

QC lit something up during TC, but he was canned anyway.

Up until today, I thought Vinny was being brought in to compete with QC, the loser then would be the backup with Henson being the protigee.

Romo was on the outs.

If you don't mind, I'd like to pepper you with a couple of more questions. Naturally, I am curious about this because its new to me.

When was the decision made that QC would ultimately be let go, regardless of how he played?

What "did him in" that that Cowboys rather would keep Henson and Romo?

Is there anything more you can expand upon on the whole scenario? Like who told you, where they got the info from, or anything else regarding the situation?
