Frankly I'm surprised by some of the things the language filter doesn't catch.

Up until today, I thought Vinny was being brought in to compete with QC, the loser then would be the backup with Henson being the protigee.

Romo was on the outs.

If you don't mind, I'd like to pepper you with a couple of more questions. Naturally, I am curious about this because its new to me.

When was the decision made that QC would ultimately be let go, regardless of how he played?

What "did him in" that that Cowboys rather would keep Henson and Romo?

Is there anything more you can expand upon on the whole scenario? Like who told you, where they got the info from, or anything else regarding the situation?
I can't say who told me. It did come from someone inside VR that you have heard of. I will leave it at that.

Carter had a very poor habit of wanting meetings with Jerry Jones. Lots of them. During the Campo years it was tolerated though it got old. Especially when it became about money. Carter was fine in 2001, but in 2002 Hutch was brought in. Suddenly he was suspicious, and pissed off and wanted more money, meetings with Jerry about his future, etc.

The infamous blow up at the Cardinals game was about lack of preparation. Carter threw Galloway and some other players under the bus in an offensive meeting where Coslet was pissed that receivers were cutting off their routes. I can reveal my source for this...Mike Lucky. Players had to restrain Joey from tearing Carter's head off after he did it. In the game the receivers ran their routes as designed and Carter threw the ball where they had in practices that upset Coslet so much. In other words, they abondoned him.

Then when you see his shouting match with Jerry, he actually was having one with Emmitt Smith coming off the field. Per Mike Lucky, Carter threw that last INT and blamed everything on the rest of the team. Emmitt told him to shut up. Jerry came over to find out why they were yelling at each other and Carter yelled at Jerry.

Still nothing was going to happen. Then Darren Woodson and Emmitt Smith asked to meet with Jerry and Dave on Tuesday and they basically told them that guys were fed up. That day Hutch was named the starter and Q did not come back on the field.

He spent the remainder of 2002 walking a straight line and doing the right things. In 2003 Bill gave him a clean slate.

In February of 2004 we started looking at Henson and word got around VR about it. Carter asked for a meeting with Jerry. That infuriated Bill. He simply hadn't played well enough in 2003 to question them making moves at QB.

In March of that year I was told he would be gone, and that we were looking at Kurt Warner and Vinny Testaverde. Cajuncowboy can verify that he and I discussed this very thing and I told him about it. I knew he really liked Warner. Up to him if he wants to.

At one point I told him that Vinny was probably going to be the guy. Remember, Vinny wasn't free until June, though there was plenty of speculation he would be.

Once he started wanting meetings and worrying about money over football, Bill was done with him. His only chance was to go into Camp and be the no doubt best option and he wasn't. That is why we didn't even try and trade him, he was just all of the sudden gone.

Yeah, I appreciate the info. That's amazing. Like Vintage, I hadn't heard any of that, either. Incredible chain of events.

Other than being surprised that they cut Tony Banks to make way for the rookie and being more shocked (at the time) that Carter got cut in TC, I never had any real emotion toward QC; not on the bandwagon, but not in the ABQ crowd, either.

I could understand his drug habit being a detriment to the team, but didn't know all the other drama that was going on. Again, thanks for the info.

Concerning his drug habits there is one thing I want to emphasize. Bill Parcells did not know anything about that. Jerry is forbidden from telling the coaches about a positive test or a player being in the substance abuse program. All owners are forbidden from this. It is to prevent coaches from having prejudices.

His relapse was a coincidence to his release. That is why Jerry and the Cowboys were ultimately found innocent of any wrong doing in releasing him after the drug test. They had documented plans showing he was out of the picture.

Think about it, if you are happy with your QB do you bring in 2 other options? A backup, sure. A successor, sure. Both in the same year? If you do that it is usually a sign change is right around the corner. The day Vinny was signed Carter's time was short.

BTW, that doesn't thrill me because I did not like Vinny much at all. But it's the truth.

Cool info, Hos. I've always wondered about the details of what you knew.

I do remember reading even in the mainstream media about Coslet seeing receivers running routes other than the ones that were called, him asking everyone what the hell was going on, and The Q blaming the WRs even though he's the one who talked them into doing it.

If Bledsoe didn't throw the interception then, he was sure to throw one on the next play, so the results would have been the same.

Jennifer Floyd Engel wrote an article in October 2003 that mentioned it. Something like "Carter's Downward Spiral."

Infamous Cowboy comedian fan Scott David also wrote a story about it on his website laststory.com where he researched deeply into Carter's feelings of paranoia dating all the way back to his Georgia days.

I have said this many times, if you re-watch that 2003 game against the Cardinals and look at where the receivers are when they come open versus where the ball was delivered you will see something amazing. Coslet had a gameplan designed that was killer. There would have been lots of YAC bonus if the ball had gone where it was supposed to instead of where it did go. It would have been one of Carter's best days as a Pro. I was at that game and I am not kidding you, I was screaming. His reads were obvious.

Oh, in preseason Coslett (he loved Hutch) brought up starting Hutch. The coaches were vehemntly opposed to it. Larry Lacewell was so opposed to it that he stood on the conference table and screamed his disapproval. After Emmitt and Darren went to Dave and Jerry, not one coach was opposed to going with Hutch. Note, even when he struggled there was no inclination to put Carter back in.

As I did say earlier, the rest of 2002 and leading up to the 2003 season he said and did the right things to regain trust. It wasn't until he got paranoid about us bringing in QBs that he lost it again. That more than performance or drugs cost him his job here.

Wasn't it called "The Bizarre World Of Quincy Carter"?

I remember reading it a while back.
