What is going on with Devin Smith?

He doesn't play special teams or couldn't gain the trust of the ST coach IMO.
Cooper, Gallup and Cobb are healthy. Austin plays ST and is their superduper gadget player.
Wilson played more STs snaps than him too overall, and maybe just impressed the coaches more.

He's been a healthy scratch. He did great in the Commanders game. Wilson plays ST sometimes. Austin is a Gadget player. Smith doesn't play ST, however, Smith is a great deep threat. Despite this, there isn't enough room for him on the roster with all the other ST players/WR's we have.

ST looks like. He didn’t get any snaps on offense did he? If so I missed them.

Only two snaps on offense so far. But his bread and butter so far is STs. Since being on the active roster he's played in over 50% of ST snaps, or 46 snaps in 3 games.

It’s hard for depth players to be active if they can’t contribute on ST
I also think because Wilson can play slot and Cobb was dinged up that has played into the decision

Which is odd since Devin Smith was considered an elite gunner coming out of Ohio St.

Devin Smith could be a great player but the NFL is about opportunity. Just ask Taco whose wracked up 4 sacks in 5 games for Miami.

Looks like he’s just a victim of the numbers game, at the moment.
At least seems to have potential as a deep threat.
But like others have already said it’s tough to be active if you’re buried on the depth chart AND don’t play ST.

Not much in terms of actual games, although, he's said to be a valuable member of the ST unit. His game time reps have been rare.

He's around. The first five games of the season, Smith had not only totaled five catches for 113 yards, but a td as well. Good filler inner for Gallup's absence.

He’s a limited one trick pony is what’s going on right now. Good fast and going straight on a few plays but needs to do the little things he hasn’t shown. Good on STs is a must too for that elusive 4th WR man role they keep trying to fill.

Go look at those four sacks. None are legitimate. Just coverage sacks where it took forever to get to the QB.

I have asked the same question. Smith is a legitimate deep threat and have two catches of over 30 yards in his limited opportunities. Remember, he was a high 2nd round pick a few years ago. Sure he is more or less a one trick pony, he doesn't play special teams, but as a receiver he is probably 4th best on the team. I did not understand why he was not activated when Cooper was out with an injury against the Jets, his old team.

Thank you. I'll repeat for those ppl in the back, Devin Smith was an "elite gunner" in college..he can play STs, but he shouldn't have to, as he should be the primary backup for Coop n Gallup. Whatever this is DAL we talking about...they'll turn a pro bowl CB into a average FS and swear they right.
