What is going on with Devin Smith?

I dont care for ou rST coach, so if he doesnt trust Devin Smith or something, or if Smith doesnt trust him, trust in that.

Go look at those four sacks. None are legitimate. Just coverage sacks where it took forever to get to the QB.

As they say, even on bad teams somebody has to get the stats.

Right, b/c Miami has such great talent at CB. lol

Have to remember these are the Dallas Cowboys. Curious personnel decisions is a constant here.
This isn't something the Cowboys have cornered the market in.

Every team in the league does things that make you scratch your head.

He doesn't play special teams or couldn't gain the trust of the ST coach IMO.
Cooper, Gallup and Cobb are healthy. Austin plays ST and is their superduper gadget player.
Wilson played more STs snaps than him too overall, and maybe just impressed the coaches more.

Devin Smith was a solid gunner on special teams at Ohio State, but who knows how it's translated into the NFL level.
but I get the feeling that coaches have soured on his play in the offense.

I dunno if it's bad routes and assignments, maybe he doesn't have a knack for the pass game and offense, maybe it's a lack of QB rapport,
maybe he's not getting the necessary separation, but ever since that Saints game, he's totally disappeared his way onto the game day inactive list.
If he was anything special, they'd scheme him into the offense on some basis and spots & packages.

Coaches apparently don't trust him and think he's nothing but a complete spare part that will take up a valuable roster game day spot.
Disappointing as if Cooper or Gallup is dinged, we don't really have another outside WR with vertical speed.

Austin doesn't have length, hands and pure receiving skills for the outside - and Wilson is a slow poke that's easily more suited for slot than outside, but
he also contributes on special teams on punt returns.

Yea, I was wondering if something minor happened where he lost favor with the staff, or it's a pure numbers game with warm bodies and ST play. Or maybe Moore wants a better short route runner like Wilson as his 4th/5th receiver?

Be curious to see what happens if they activate Brown off the PUP.

i'd be vastly disappointed with a player like Noah Brown, who hasn't played all year long (that includes all summer long with no camp or preseason) .and was already still very green and underdeveloped as a WR in the pass game, to finally be declared game activated this regular season- and I thought PUP was the first six games of the season, and we already past 6 games.

there's nothing about his skill set that is so warranted to where we'll need to cut someone in favor of his blocking skills.
Keep him on IR, and re-start him all over again in the offseason. I would also wonder what is wrong with his knee that he needed this long of a healing period.

where do people want smith to play? Over cooper or gallup? He doesnt play inside and wilson does.

There is so much to be curious about or worried about yet people invent things like who is holding devin smith back as if he is the missing piece on offense or something.

I really question people's understanding of football.

I think the personnel decisions are fine...you can only have 45 on game day and outside of your starters, you have to consider depth for every position and the depth has to, just has to be good on ST. would you take Austin or Smith on game day? because if you take both, who will you not take? a back up tackle or guard or safety or CB or LB or DT or DE?

its a numbers game...I don't think being 6 deep at WR on game day is critical.

I have asked the same question. Smith is a legitimate deep threat and have two catches of over 30 yards in his limited opportunities. Remember, he was a high 2nd round pick a few years ago. Sure he is more or less a one trick pony, he doesn't play special teams, but as a receiver he is probably 4th best on the team. I did not understand why he was not activated when Cooper was out with an injury against the Jets, his old team.
how many snaps? and then two plays...what's his target rate? is Dak not targeting him? what's his catch percentage....any player can have a couple of good plays in the year, but doesn't mean they deserve to play...plus who would you not take on game day if you go 6 deep at WR?

:hammer:

they just want to complain about something....let them be...

Yes that elite Dolphins secondary giving Taco time to get it done, we could only wish we had the same caliber players here.

Devin Smith will be stashed as a filler for now but in the end he is Austin's replacement next season. Has the same tools but better. Personally I would use him over Austin but its fine we can wait until next season. I just hope they don't let him walk because hes the real deal when given an opportunity.

After that TD pass against the Skins, I guess Garrett is afraid to use him much more. Make a good play and either the play disappears from the playbook or the player disappears to the bench. I don't get it.

That is Garrett's MO. Be a high powered offense with multiple WRs giving defenses fits one week to a plodding 3TE predictable one the next.

Go look at the sacks. They're just like the ones he had here. Either he's completely unblocked, or the QB holds the ball forever. He's had perhaps 2-3 legitimate sacks his entire career, and that's from a first-round pick.
