What would you rather go with, a big DT like Grant or Williams or a penetrator like Harmon or Nolan

Do you think Mazi can become an effective pass down DT?
Harmon/Nolan

And no I don't regarding Mazi. But I still think he can become a good player. This off-season is probably his last chance but I don't see any real pass rush from him

Im in the same boat with Smith. I think once they started playing him in a one gap and stop trying to make him a penetrator, he started to improve.

I bet you wouldn’t have paid Pollard 10 million coming off of a broken leg or Steele top 5 right tackle money off of a ACL. Osa is better than both and he is healthy.
Pollard when healthy was far better and he contract was half of what Osa will be asking for.

Williams, Pearce and Scourton are all good defenders on the edge. Pearce plays bigger than his size, and will eventually play in 260's. People box him in as a pass rush specialist. Thats incorrect. Id be happy with any of the three. All three are 3 down guys

Fixing the run defense has to come from more than just the draft. You need internal development (Smith, Kneeland, Liufau). You need to add vets in FA.
I agree it has to come from more then this 1 draft. Yes, we have to develop of in house players but this front office has to give us more then past the prime low level fa's.

Much better and consistent DT play - trickles down (or out, back, etc...) to every other position.

10 million for a running back is probably more expensive on the cap then 20 million for a defensive tackle especially in 2023 compared to 2025. Barkley and Henry cap holds combined are less then Pollard.

Yeah, Franchise Tag is more expensive as you cannot spread out the salary.

Give me some hope with Brian as the coach please. I don’t think he is as bad as people perceive but it does tell me the Joneses are more worried about comfort than anything else. It is almost impossible to win that way.

Schotty is the definition of the status quo and staying comfortable…he’s going to want to run the ball 30 times a game like it’s 1990.

do we have the personnel?

posters are murmuring we have acquired some tough dudes, Steele and Guyton posters are questioning.
I think Jeanty would help but you also need a philosophy. McCarthy was always a pass first coach because of his days with Farve and Rodgers. Making your team a run team is the easiest way to go. Linemen are better run blockers then pass blockers.

I think we need one DT and one DE - two DTs if we don't re-sign Osa.

I am hedging my bets on Kneeland. I'd say he met expectations as a rookie, but he didn't look good enough to where I'd just hand him a 2025 starting gig.

He is as bad as you think. I was around for his Jet days, basically ran an offense to not make mistakes and allow the defense to carry them. Was a run heavy scheme as Rex used to say ground and pound.

Could Rex possibly be our new defensive coordinator? Broaddus said that there is no way Zimmer will come back under Brian. Those were some of the better Jets teams in the 2000s.

Maybe we need to be a run first team.
Over the last 10 years I don’t think there’s been a team that has run their way to a Super Bowl win.

Yes - all in on continuing to beef up the line and run the ball better but if we don’t add more talent at WR and get a better offensive scheme the run game won’t matter.

This season every team in the final 4 is a running team. The best passing teams either missed the playoffs or didn’t get out of the divisional round. Most importantly with Dak as our quarterback the Cowboys need to be an effective run team to have any chance.

Dude…we’re calling teams with Mahomes, Allen and JD5 running teams? You’re talking about 3 of the best QBs in football right now.

Are they good running teams? Yes, but that doesn’t make them a “running team.”

The Eagles? Sure…Jalen is mediocre but he still has elite offensive weapons to move the chains when needed.

Again I’m all for getting better at running the football but winning as a running team would be an outlier type scenario.

What happens in the playoffs when you run into a buzz saw defense against the run and the best way to beat them is to attack their secondary but you only have 1 good player to throw it to? The 49ers happens…
