SF doesnt want to pay him 7 mil a year, even though his kicking greatly help them win the dallas game.but mahers been better then most being mentioned here ie near 90% on FGs the last 2 seasons, 87% for his career had one issue late basically one truly bad game but hes not cost us single game..hes a good fall back.
all this Gould talk, i have to be that poster, why did the niners let him go? why is he still available?
we seen some missed fgs buy the best kickers in the game..it happens.. again, if Gould was that Gould 7mil nothing if its his leg that got them to a SB?? come on man,..SF doesnt want to pay him 7 mil a year, even though his kicking greatly help them win the dallas game.
maher is good IMO and is cheaper, but in big games, playoffs, gould and succup , and the guy on ravens are the 3 most consistent kickers in the nfl.
I remember the guy patriots had back when they first started thier SB runs, he was money in the playoffs and it helped NE win some of those games.
Be a bummer to lose a nfc champ game because your kicker misses a end of game FG !
That draft was particularly bad. Not much talent anywhere in that draft.Anything is possible, although they surely should have gotten all the cautionary problems needed to prevent it from happening again. A repeat of that absolutely stupid decision would be catastrophic, without a doubt.
A K, I think he is in the draft, is Ruggles from Ohio State. Excellent K, except against Georgia last year, in bad conditions, a very hard FG to make, he missed, badly. It could have sent them to play TCU in the championship game. He made many clutch kicks, but not that one. But it was in position for any K to miss it. Very low % chance.SF doesnt want to pay him 7 mil a year, even though his kicking greatly help them win the dallas game.

Ryland is pretty much the UDFA cheaper Brett Maher. They just sent their ST coach to U of Maryland pro day a couple days ago to work out their kicker. Someone to watch in the draft.

If he is available in the late rounds, or especially in an UDFA, they need to get him if they do not address it before.
Yet Maher 2 years now 90% and? not inconsistent, one truly bad game that don't cost us the game ..FGs are not his issue it was XPs which BTW aren't the angles from the hashes, the extra point distance, and other factors much different in college vs the NFL?Ryland is pretty much the UDFA cheaper Brett Maher.
Monster leg with kicks over 55+ yards. But super inconsistent. In 5 years of kicking he’s never been better than 87% on the season.
If there is another FA signing it will be ultimate bargain bin shopping.https://www.dallascowboys.com/news/what-s-next-in-free-agency-kicker-plans-more
Some tidbits here. I will give some points, as I do not believe in just posting the link. That is lazy posting.
Stephen talks about getting players, as the trades just worked out for this time, as other times to did not. They did not have a plan to just trade for a few players. But it worked out they did. As it did not work out last season at the trade deadline. Everything needs to fall in place, including the price.
He said they would like to have both Hankins and Watkins back, it is not either or one of them, it is both. I know this is not what fans want to hear. But it does not rule out drafting one either.
Also they are not opposed to drafting a K.
A few other tidbits in there as well.
Updated team FA tracker, thought to add this for the latest info.

How about a Super Bowl? A missed kick put Bill Parcells in the Hall of Fame.SF doesnt want to pay him 7 mil a year, even though his kicking greatly help them win the dallas game.

I remember hearing that the rules were changed or just being recognize now, that place holders were no longer going to be allowed to mark the kick by the ball when snapped with a blade of grass or any other foreign object.SF doesnt want to pay him 7 mil a year, even though his kicking greatly help them win the dallas game.

Maher has been 80.6, 66.7, 88.9 and 90.6 which makes him an 81.7% career kicker. That’s about above average in terms of NFL kickers. He is 26th of all active kickers in kicking %Yet Maher 2 years now 90% and? not inconsistent, one truly bad game that don't cost us the game ..FGs are not his issue it was XPs which BTW aren't the angles from the hashes, the extra point distance, and other factors much different in college vs the NFL?
most likely why a lot of kickers aren't drafted from college and many that are don't make it right away, might be one of the toughest transitional positions to make the jump.IMHO
over the last 2 years hes at 90% its now not before in a kickers world.. sorry but that fact he was Money Maher ALL season last year until the TB game, he made his last 2 kicks that all we need to know.. One bad game doesn't make him labeled "inconsistent" he was consistent for 17 games and in the playoffs which is new season with new stats he choked on XPS.. period, end of story,Maher has been 80.6, 66.7, 88.9 and 90.6 which makes him an 81.7% career kicker. That’s about above average in terms of NFL kickers. He is 26th of all active kickers in kicking %
Ryland is a career 77.46% kicker.
So. My point is, both guys have monster legs, have been inconsistent on their careers.
