What is that?

I work with a guy that is all about 'macho'. I see it all of the time in most things he does.
He is very short but is always trying to show that he is a big tough guy. It is very important to him.

He rides his motorcycle to work sometimes when the temp is in the 20's.

I saw his motorcycle in his church parking lot on Sunday as I drove to church, .. and it was 17 degrees.

I ride a bike myself and know that anything under 50 is very cold on a bike. Riding when it is that cold can not be enjoyable. It's not like he does not have two other very nice vehicles.

What is that? Why does he feel the need to do that?

Another guy I know wants to be known as the guy that always wears shorts. Everywhere I see him, no matter how cold out, he has on shorts.

On Saturday, at our high school playoff game, it was in the low 30's and very windy. Nasty.

He had a blanket, hooded swearshirt, gloves, toboggan hat, ... yes you guessed it, he was in shorts.

What is that? Why?

Both seem to be "Look at me" things, .. so I am asking, .. because maybe I just don't get it, but what is that?

When I had a motorcycle I rode it many times in freezing weather - rain, wind, sleet, snow, you name it. It was because that's all I had. I didn't own a car. Just my decked out big touring bike for three years. Loved it.

I completely understand if that's all you had.

Did you enjoy the rain, wind, sleet and snow?

I don't.

Dude is almost certainly lacking in other, more private, areas of his life. :D

I don't know what you have against tough guys. Do you even lift, bro?

Is that what that is, .. tough? Or is that just plain stupid?

Tough is working two jobs to support a family, .. tough is taking care of elderly parents, .. tough is being a single parent, .. tough is battling a disease or handicap, .. tough is winning a battle with addiction, .. tough is raising a special needs child.

Riding a motorcycle when it is 17 degress is voluntary and stupid, .. not tough.

classic case of insecurity. Kind of like the guy who is 5' 3" and jumps out of his Ford F-350. Like I say, Little F**k, Big Truck.

The shorts guy needs a beatdown. Maybe once, many years ago, some drunk chick told him he had sexy legs, and he's run with it ever since.

It's all similar to the guys who are 300 lbs, but think they are all muscle. They feel the need to roll up their sleeves to show off their undefined, fat arms. I call it the Berwick Brotherhood. If you are 5' 8", 300lbs, bald with a go-tee, and you roll up your sleeves, you're part of the Berwick Brotherhood!

You were right, those two examples are just "look at me" things. Like previously mentioned, insecurity in their masculinity.

Come on Denim, those personalities aren't tough guys. You can lift and be a good boxer without overcompensating. I just said come on, because I know you're no meat head.

lol

This is the problem with our society right now.

Ever think maybe he's just more comfortable in shorts?

I know i wear athletic shorts alot, and yes, even into the fall and winter months at times.

I don't do it so other people will look at me and think im tough or something.

I do it because im comfortable in them and i don't care if that's a problem for other people, really.

Too many people so concerned with what others are doing (that isn't harming anyone).

Too few people worrying about more important things and themselves.

Even goes so far as for others to think that person "needs a beatdown".. because he's comfortable in shorts.

lol.. oh bother.

Whatever, brah. When I'm not benching 450, I'm sucking down protein and working on my tan. I like to grunt when I get my swell on so everyone KNOWS how buff and tan I am.

The guy on the bike is ridiculous. I can't stand people like that.

I actually wish I was shorts guy. I hate wearing pants but it's just plain dumb to be wearing shorts when its freezing out just to make some kind of a statement.

Edit.. Surprised that shorts guy is getting hated on.

The problem with society ??? LOL

Anyway, this is the issue, .. he is not more comfortable in shorts.

He knows it's cold outside, .. he knows he will be out in that cold for a couple of hours, .. he knows he does not want to be cold because the brought a blanket, hooded swearshirt, gloves, and a toboggan hat.

And yet he still wears shorts.

If it is that cold out, and you brought all of that stuff to keep you warm, .. why wear shorts? Makes no sense.

He is trying to prove something to somebody.

I don't get it.
