What is the cap hit if Romo is traded?

I keep hearing they have to extend him to get cap relief. So what is the cap hit if they trade him? If you get a significant return for him in the trade market why not trade him and let Orton man up for a year. This team is in more of a rebuilding mode rather than reloading for a run at a championship.

yep a stop gap to what is not going to be a championship season with romo. Plus I'm really tired and trying to stay awake at work.

Sorry to break it to you OP, but whether you like it or not, Romo is about to be extended and signed to a big deal.

Ridiculousness of the premise aside, it is around 13M due to the dead money on the voidable contract years

If he was traded this year his cap hit would be 14.5m in 2013. If he is on the team for 2013 his contract voids and he becomes a FA.

Thank you for answering the question.

Exactly. 4 win team and good chance we get best QB next year in the draft. Beats another gut wrenching 8-8 season.

It's not as if 8-8 has been the norm with a full season of Romo, that has actually been the floor. To me, a worst case scenario of being a borderline contender does not outweigh the pretty solid odds that his replacement can't do that for us.

If you're going to take a lazy, unintelligent, bottom-line approach, what's the difference between the 49ers and the Chiefs? 31 out of 32 teams failed to reach their objective so why would any of them continue down a path that clearly isn't working?

 The difference between a 4 win team and an 8 win team is the 4 win team needs a ton of extra pieces to even be relevant and likely doesn't have a QB...

If 8-8 is gut wrenching, you're a pretty spoiled fan. :laugh2:

seems to me that if my team had the worst running offense in football and gave up 36 sacks and still went 8-8, the answer to getting better is not trading your qb but fixing the oline.
thats just me but heck good qb's are all over the place so they are easier to get than olinemen:eek::

For multiple years....6-10, 8-8,-8-8... no playoffs yeah, it is gut wrenching.
