Some of the scariest things are the times you are convinced you heard something, or saw someone but never are able to confirm it. Your mind will play tricks on you the rest of the night.
I remember just going outside to take the trash out when I was younger... It seemed like everytime I'd heard some noise when I'd turn my back and I'd never know who/what made the noise and I'd run back as fast as I could.

The only real story I have on the matter: We were on our way back from somewhere ( I was 10 years old at the time) and it was dark out. We were driving up a hill right in front of the street we live on and we see a guy walking down the street with a hood over his head and something draped across his shoulder. As we got closer he stared right at the car and we realized it was a rifle or gun of some sort and he took off running. My dad called the police and they couldn't find the guy anywhere. Someone in my neighborhood called the police earlier reporting a possible break-in but they didn't find the guy at the time. So we figured he must have been hiding out and we happened to drive by and it spooked him. I was terrified all night long wondering if he'd recognize my face since i was right beside him when we passed by. I never saw him again and to my knowledge he was never arrested. I grew up in a pretty average neighborhood so things like this never really happened. It was pretty scary as a kid, I can't imagine what it must have been like for you guys to have someone like that actually in your house.
