What is the secret switch Romos talking about?

I think Linehan and Romo have connected in what they want to call and setting up plays.

What we are seeing is a very aggressive passing attack vertically down the field.

Earlier in the season..

Romo was not in shape and only threw short to medium passes.

Now they have figured out how to dictate matchups to attack the defense.

What else I'm noticing is that we quickly attack a position once a starter on the other team's gone out.

If it a DL..

we run the ball at the replacement.

If its a safety..

we throw to TE.

If its a CB..we immediately go over the top.

So the change is higher and faster evaluation from upstairs and quicker implementation of a probe of the replacement.

This is what I'm seeing.

Make any sense to you guys?

If what you're saying is true, I say it's about time! It always annoyed me that it seemed like we never took advantage of a hole in the other team's starting lineup.

We've even seen some play action on 1st down every now and then and a lot more passing on 2nd.

Earlier in the season they only threw when they had to probably for fear of Romo's back.

It's funny how everyone was begging them to run and then they did a 180 by almost running exclusively to the point of being conservative. Seems like they've found the balance needed and understand running helps a lot of things but Romo when healthy is still the best weapon.

yeah i saw that. he was pretty big on the change. not sure what it is, but its definitely something in the passing game. seems like something related to the # of routes over the middle to me.

That absolutely is what I think it is. A lot more combination routes and Witten seems to be held in less to block than he was earlier in the year.

id bet money, its they finally started listening to tony and implementing what he's saying.

OR, they're letting tony run the entire offense

.....and it's amazing what having time in the pocket can do.

Gives you time to run crossing routes.

Whatever the "switch" is, we're finally seeing the offense put receivers in positions to make plays.

Like many others, I also believe that they are using the middle of the field more often with someone other than a certain TE.

Good points. A ton of no back, shotgun formations. Seems like the O scheme changed quite a bit in terms of the passing attack.
I think this is it. It came out of nowhere in the Bears game if I recall correctly. It's almost randomized too. They will call it in non obvious downs. Our wide open passing game has been kept under wraps all season pretty much. Now they throw that out there in spurts and teams can't handle it.

Up until the Chicago game it was run no matter what including eight and nine man fronts. There was one game where Murray even said it's hard to run against nine man fronts. Now that almost everyone we play is selling out to stop the run, I've noticed we're taking advantage of that more in the passing game. The other switch that he probably wasn't talking about is the sense of urgency you see with the players offense and defense with guys flying to the ball etc.. You could see it from the first play from scrimmage where Crawford knifed into the backfield and got a TFL. They actually look like a team that people wouldn't want to play in the playoffs.

I know what happened. Garret went to the White House and grabbed a couple of bags for the team. Its all about that white horse. Its amazing how much better it made them feel and play. ;)

Well I saw more slants in 1 game then I've seen in the last 7 or 8 years under Garrett yesterday.

As far as Romo goes, the 1st game against the Giants is when I really started to see more of the 2006/2007 Romo play. He had a few off games, audibling too much against Washington and then he got hurt and didn't quite get the rest needed against Philly on Thanksgiving. But, outside of those games he's moving around in the pocket like he did in that Giants game (and like he did in '06 and '07) and he's throwing the ball with amazing accuracy. The other thing I've seen is that they have been audibling much less lately. This is particularly true since the Bears game. If anything, that not only makes things less confusing for the rest of the offensive players, but if you get the play right away, you can prevent the defense from disguising blitzes and coverages.
