What is truly needed to fix the trenches-Offense?

I’m keeping every offensive lineman we have including Steele. The 2nd half of the season his play improved substantially and his contract isn’t bad when looking at what tackles get paid now. Guyton does concern me, not giving up on him or anything like that but why wasn’t he playing towards the end of the season. I know he had penalty issues but we were out of the playoffs and it was the perfect time for development. Was this a MM thing?

There have been rumblings that the team wanted Guyton to grow up on and off the field, they felt like he had immaturity issues. This was something I also heard leading up to the draft last year.

Hope he is able to overcome this because there is talent and he is the key to solidifying the line.

The hope is the rest of the OL is the opposite, considered all hard workers and professionals on and off the field.

Problem is, you need both. I understand where he is coming from, Jeanty is special and can make our average OL look better then they actually are.

one thing to remember is that size is not always everything; remember its the size of the fight in the dog not the size of the dog in the fight.

I would not say Steele was solid; he was acceptable when he was playing his best because he will never be all that as a pass blocker. He did get somewhat better later in the season; but then we were facing a lot of losing teams then as well.

I think with all the other real needs this team has, I could accept a year with what we have seeing what the young guys got.

Good assessment. I think Steele will end up being the weak link…not sure if Richards can be the next RT.

It’s a loaded Guard class with a lot of the top OTs being considered Guards at the next level.

I don’t want to go OL in the 1st…but if one of the top OT / G hybrid type prospects falls to the 2nd sign me up. Ex - the kid from WVU Millam.

The young guys are going to have to grow a lot; when we faced the Top DLs they pretty much got owned. Not too surprising; even the legendary LA got owned a few times as a rook. Hoffman has to get stronger; but I love his attitude. Bass I think will be a solid guard. Richards has the quick feet; just is raw. Beebe I believe will be an excellent center given more experience at a position he never played before. smith at guard will be a All Pro guy and hopefully on his way to the HOF. Guyton is very raw; he is the one real question mark but he is raw.

Might have to look at the medicals on Simmons first, patella are the worst type of knee injuries. Do like Booker as well.

Biggest issue are the two tackles, one is a penalty machine, the other cannot pass protect. I think they have enough on the inside, but those tackles worry me the most.

True, the OTs are questionable but the Cowboys made their bed with those guy via money and draft status. I don't see an inexpensive alternative, and that's why I mentioned Simmons. Simmons could be stashed while the incumbent starters try ro improve with a new coach, but he'll cost a lot.

You know how this front office operates, they fully expect their top picks to play day 1 and make an impact. Don't see them stashing any 1st rd picks anytime soon.
