I read they will assess his contract at the combine to see where his value is, and whether they want to restructure, please give your thoughts

He isnt going to sell many more. A REAL RB taking over would sell more.
He is a minor celebrity. Someone people have heard of. Jerry loves that.

That’s part of what needs to be overcome in order to win in Dallas.

Have any of you heard of a player restructuring a deal then being cut at a reduced salary, saving the team money?

They could restructure the deal, get to camp and realize this guy is not it, and he be a final roster surprise cut.

I think the value of Zeke as a player right now is probably irrelevant, and it has way more to do with Zeke's contract. The dead cap for Zeke will be around $5MM if they release him so I would assume that is probably as cheap as you could realistically retain Zeke for this year. I believe his guaranteed money is all paid so for the Cowboys it's all about the cap hit, but someone fact check me on this one, I'm not 100% sure how guaranteed money is affected by contract restructures, if at all. If this is true and the Cowboys can retain Zeke basically for free, and Zeke gets a new deal with that money now guaranteed it feels like a win/win to me.

My guess is that is what happens, as I just can't see him getting more on the open market, or even close. Too many viable options via the draft and too many names in free agency this year as well. Looking at free agent RBs I'm not even sure Zeke would be in the top 10 on the open market?

Zeke the player I'm not sure has much value outside of vet minimum or close to it. He is realistically a 200-250 touch per year back with his biggest asset being in short yardage situations and pass protection. He seems to be a liability as a receiver, and diminishing skills as an all-around runner.

Guys like Barkley, Pollard, Miles Sanders, David Montgomery, and Josh Jacobs all are 5x more desirable backs than Zeke. Even the guys in the next tier like Damien Harris, James Robinson, and Jamaal Williams probably get more attention in free agency than Zeke. Then you have guys who are also likely to get cut like Leonard Fournette who is on the backside of his career, but would likely garner more attention than Zeke.

As a huge Zeke fan coming out of school, and appreciative for the first few years he gave the Cowboys I just don't see the upside to the player at this point. He can still be a great situational runner who can give you 10-20 snaps a game, but hes limited to the point that it almost makes zero sense for the Cowboys or any other team to pay him big money. The RB market just has too many players right now for him to have value.

I could be wrong, but in this case I would assume the only motivation for Zeke to agree to a new deal is for them to guarantee more money so it wouldn't make any sense to do that and then cut him unless Zeke is completely done.
