What is Zeke's value financially?

I just have to note that these $4m or more discussions would still put Zeke in the upper echelon for pay. He doesn't come close to deserving that.

If he would accept the vet min, maaaybe you keep him. Jerry and Stephen seem to think that. Personally I think his presence on the team is to the point where its a distraction. He should be a short yardage / 3rd string back next year but him being on the roster is going to cause people to look over their shoulders constantly.
Overall I agree, but really you are negotiating against his current contract, not necessarily Zeke himself. You can cut him this year and have $6MM of dead cap each of the two years or you can renegotiate. It's more about working something out to where Zeke gets more guaranteed money than he would get now while the Cowboys lessen that cap hit to make it more beneficial than cutting him.

I read they will assess his contract at the combine to see where his value is, and whether they want to restructure, please give your thoughts
why is this even a conversation? Zeke was a bad pick in 2016. Believe it or not teams make mistakes.
The whole point of drafting a player in the top 5 is to get an amazing talent that you want to give a second contract to.
Remember the first 5 years the team have the advantage as its a set salary slot.
Guys like Zack Marktin, Smith, Parsons, the team has zero issues with giving these guys a second contract.

It was a mistake to pay Zeke when we did but like usual, Jerry doing Jerry things.

Don't restructure. Just because he can still jump into a Salvation Army bucket doesn't mean he is more valuable.

I think Zeke has done personally financially well, but for the team his financial value is zilch. Even at a pay cut, i would not want him taking a roster spot for a better half back. Pollard's injury has almost guaranteed him staying in Dallas at a lesser contract than he had hoped but only for one or two years max. Doubt he gets franchised because of the injury. I am afraid Jerry is gonna want to retain Zeke for personal reasons and not what is best for the team, typical Jerry move.

Agree and that is the problem, he gets to tied up with these players. Other teams would not have a problem sending him on down the road but the boys are like that Grandma that in 2023 still have newspapers from the 70’s lying around.

To me his contract is not even the question.

The problem is that he will occupy a roster spot. And he is not worth one.

I think all together counter productive to even have him on the roster. He will be a progress stopper.
Exactly. What RB coach is going to tell him he's not getting reps today with the 1st or 2nd team? He has to be gone or he's going to be in the way of other more capable RBs.

His value as a player on an NFL roster? Zilch. Nothing. Nada. Too many available running backs around that can do more than he can.

Raw stats aren't bad. 22 tds, almost 2,000 yards at about 4 a carry the last two years. Someone will pay him 8-10. I don't think those stats tell the whole story, and I think Dallas knows which is why I think its unlikely they be willing to pay that

We have the worst fans in the NFL…heck of any sport.

They will do with what they feel is best for the team. Fans will whine no matter what.

Reading these posts......I'd surmise Zeke has a better chance walking through the Serengeti with a bag of raw meat in his hands.

Zeke topic starting to be more recurring than the nightly Andy Griffith reruns that I'm about to watch......again.

"Jerry the fan" forever refuses to part ways with players who've been valuable to his team in the past. He sorely needs to kick that habit.

Both he and his salary, at any price, are dead weight and holding the team back.

How much money does Dallas have to pay him if they cut him tomorrow? I’m not talking salary cap hit. I mean if Zeke is cut how much does Dallas owe him.

How many are on rookie deals? only those with a hate agenda will take this as a true value of a RB.
Again, this discussion chain is regarding paying Zeke $4m per year. If you look, only about half of the starting RB's in the NFL make that much and virtually none of the back ups do. Unless you think that Zeke is a "top half of the NFL" starting level RB, then $4m per year is a significant overpayment.

As far as rookie deals, Jason Peters made $1.8m this last year. TY Hilton made $800k. Both of these guys used to be elite players at their position and certainly aren't rookies. As back ups, they were vet min type players. That's where Zeke is at as far as market goes. That's not hating or an agenda. Its just reality unless you think that Zeke is still a starting level RB.

The only position that the NFL pays above the vet min for back ups is QB and frequently, even not then. As you are getting to, most teams fill out their rosters with rookie contract type players and vet min guys.
