Overall I agree, but really you are negotiating against his current contract, not necessarily Zeke himself. You can cut him this year and have $6MM of dead cap each of the two years or you can renegotiate. It's more about working something out to where Zeke gets more guaranteed money than he would get now while the Cowboys lessen that cap hit to make it more beneficial than cutting him.I just have to note that these $4m or more discussions would still put Zeke in the upper echelon for pay. He doesn't come close to deserving that.
If he would accept the vet min, maaaybe you keep him. Jerry and Stephen seem to think that. Personally I think his presence on the team is to the point where its a distraction. He should be a short yardage / 3rd string back next year but him being on the roster is going to cause people to look over their shoulders constantly.
why is this even a conversation? Zeke was a bad pick in 2016. Believe it or not teams make mistakes.I read they will assess his contract at the combine to see where his value is, and whether they want to restructure, please give your thoughts
Don't restructure. Just because he can still jump into a Salvation Army bucket doesn't mean he is more valuable.I read they will assess his contract at the combine to see where his value is, and whether they want to restructure
I think Zeke has done personally financially well, but for the team his financial value is zilch. Even at a pay cut, i would not want him taking a roster spot for a better half back. Pollard's injury has almost guaranteed him staying in Dallas at a lesser contract than he had hoped but only for one or two years max. Doubt he gets franchised because of the injury. I am afraid Jerry is gonna want to retain Zeke for personal reasons and not what is best for the team, typical Jerry move.
https://overthecap.com/position/running-backHow in the heck does 4 mil put him in the upper pay for backs!? Lol say you gate zeke without saying it !
To me his contract is not even the question.I read they will assess his contract at the combine to see where his value is, and whether they want to restructure, please give your thoughts
Exactly. What RB coach is going to tell him he's not getting reps today with the 1st or 2nd team? He has to be gone or he's going to be in the way of other more capable RBs.I think all together counter productive to even have him on the roster. He will be a progress stopper.
Raw stats aren't bad. 22 tds, almost 2,000 yards at about 4 a carry the last two years. Someone will pay him 8-10. I don't think those stats tell the whole story, and I think Dallas knows which is why I think its unlikely they be willing to pay thatI read they will assess his contract at the combine to see where his value is, and whether they want to restructure, please give your thoughts
How many are on rookie deals? only those with a hate agenda will take this as a true value of a RB.https://overthecap.com/position/running-back
According to that, there are 165 rb's in the NFL. 17 of them make $4m or more per year. I would say that's upper echelon.
No one is paying back up RB's $4m per year. At least, not intentionally.
Again, this discussion chain is regarding paying Zeke $4m per year. If you look, only about half of the starting RB's in the NFL make that much and virtually none of the back ups do. Unless you think that Zeke is a "top half of the NFL" starting level RB, then $4m per year is a significant overpayment. How many are on rookie deals? only those with a hate agenda will take this as a true value of a RB.
