Finally! Real NFL football starts this coming week. The 2024 Cowboys season starts next Sunday in Cleveland against a browns team with plenty of strengths and plenty of question marks too.

Here is a look at the browns strengths and weaknesses, along with question marks going into 2024:
STRENGTHS
  • The browns have an outstanding defense. It was ranked #1 in 2023 in total defense, giving up only 270 yards per game.
  • Their defense was especially tough against the pass last year, allowing a league low 57% completion rate for opposing QBs, and finished 5th in sacks with 49.
  • DE Myles Garrett was the NFL Defensive Player of the year in 2023, is a 3x first team All Pro, and continues to be outstanding as a pass rusher and overall disrupter, getting 14 sacks last year, and had 16 sacks each the previous 2 seasons.
  • The browns played very well at home last year, going 8-1 in their stadium.
  • The browns were 11-6 last year despite losing their starting QB for the season in week 10 with a shoulder injury, and their top RB for the season in week 2.
  • Despite not having a good QB situation last year, former Cowboy WR Amari Cooper had a very good season last year with 72 receptions for 1,250 yards, and made the pro bowl.
WEAKNESSES
  • The browns offense has been mostly mediocre the last two seasons. In 2023, the browns were ranked 16th in total offense, and 14th in 2022.
  • Their best RB Nick Chubb suffered a serious knee injury at the beginning of the season last year and will not be ready to start this season. Without Chubb, the browns only averaged 3.9 yds per rush in 2023.
  • The browns were terrible on 3rd down conversion % last year, finishing 29th with a paltry 31.6% 3rd down conversion rate.
  • Deshaun Watson will probably be very rusty having not played since last Nov and having a surgically repaired throwing shoulder.
QUESTION MARKS
  • What will Deshaun Watson be able to do after that major surgery on his shoulder last year?
  • Without Nick Chubb to start the season, will the browns be able to run the ball effectively? (They couldn’t last year)
  • The browns (like the Cowboys) have a mostly rebuilt OL. Will it be able to be effective?
  • Will the browns maintain their recent home field advantage after going 8-1 last year at home?
The opening week of every season always has surprises. This should be a very fun and interesting matchup. The browns have an outstanding defense but their offense has been just average. Hopefully the Cowboys can generate some offense and the defense can show some grit too.

The regular season is here!

This has team and organization has been the worst for a third of a century.

Over 35 years!!! 0-16. Coach had to jump into Lake Erie.

As for current history, their qb shows up for 2 games a year.

In the viewing area and us cowboys fans live large!

In short, I will leave a link to a picture that puts it all into perspective.

No excuses on this one.

None!

I don't care what the brownies did last year. Watson is a turnover machine and our defense will feast off that. I'm not worried at all about them.

They have injuries at O-Line and RB. Not sure they can win passing the ball. We should squeak this one out.

I think this game is more about us. I think what you laid out based on last year and without Chubb will be pretty indicative of what the Browns are again this year. Our issues and how we overcome them will likely decide the game. Will our new OL perform well against a tough defense and a player of the year candidate? Will we be able to run the ball? Willl we do a better job defending the run against a team that wants to run the ball? Can we get a pass rush other than Micah? How will our corners do with Diggs coming off a major injury and a rookie thrust into an NFL role week 1? Will our revamped LBer group perform as well as we are assuming and in particular with bigger bodies in front of them hopefully keeping them "clean"

I think the Cowboys will decide whether or not they win this game more so than the Browns will. Very excited to see how we do

Bend but dont break defense should prove well this week in keeping our offense fresh becayse its gonna be a tough day offensively. Rooks on o line, lamb just gtg back ouut there, running game could have issues. We are going to have to go 11 personnel alot! Another way to go is to use their strengths against them like allowing garrett to go wide push him that way. Dump the ball off right where he should be or run misdirection to that side. Let him wash himself out of the plays. Obviously it wont be easy all I know is head up he will cause issues for the rook and getting our o line in space will help alot.

On D we could go the route of trying to destroy them since they wont have a running game. Zimmer disguises would do that. Trying to get turnovers is the reason. Get a few of those. Get up by 14 then you use the bend but dont break D so as to keep tbeir great defense from getting turnovers on us and coming back. Im saying bend but dont break D, make them use up 9 mins and at max get a FG.

Top three defense with a questionable offense. It should be a low scoring game either way.

The fact that our only chance to win is hoping Watson still sucks, we might as well start the tank
