I have a feeling our defense might not be great, but it's going to be pretty good this year.

I think the defensive line will be fine. I worry mostly about the offensive line, particularly at center where we seem to be the weakest.

Not really…it’s uncomfortable but not unheard for a quarterback and something the Cowboys can consider if his form creators. The price for the low 20m cap hits in 2021 and 2022 is that 40m of cap damage is shifted to future years.

So if we cut him post June 1st 2024 we still have to pay that 40m but it’d be an 18m cap hit in 2024 and 22m in 2025. Essentially if Dak isn’t worthy of a starting QB who earninng a 29m base salary we can and should cut him post June 1st 2024.

The no trade/franchise clause does kill any leverage and the potential of getting draft picks though which makes it a pretty horrible deal IMO.

The likely strategy being tank 2024, clear cap space and get a rookie QB in the top 5 of the 2025 draft.

The no trade/tag clause was horrible business if your the Cowboys, and why a lot of the "Dak hate" is so prevalent, horrible contract.

That is not how you win in the NFL. You win in the NFL by getting yards and scoring points. That is what Dak excels at. You call those checkdowns but if a checkdown 7 on a 3rd and 5 is still a first down. That is why Dak 3 years ago matched Romos career best in yards. It is why 2 years ago he was on pace to shatter the NFL record before his injury; this is because you do not need to force it down the field. The modern NFL QB is someone who can move and has an arm like Rodgers or Mahomes but actually plays like Drew Brees. That is what works. That is the mold of the top-tier QB.

Good points and romo did over do it sometimes . But do you really think Dak has the accuracy and defense reading ability to be compared to the top tier QBs? I have a feeling Dak has become even more limited after his injury as the scrambling is less than an option. He made many errant throws and many rushed throws as he gets happy feet very quickly, at important moments. After 6 years , it is what it is.
Comparing stats in this era is misleading as the NFL has become much more protective of the offensive players and the QBs in ways that makes every mediocre QB complete at least 58 to 62% of his completions. It is a new era.
This coming season will confirm many things about Dak. We will get more info about the receiving corp as well. I think Cee dee was hugely missued and was not getting enough targets , i think will have a breakout season . To be targeted only 2-3 times against the 49ers is crazy with someone with his speed and ability.

It would have to get to the point where we would be in danger of falling out of the playoff picture, and he'd have to clearly be the main reason why. We could go 0-7 and he would not be removed if there were any other possible reasons why we lost, which there would be. We're riding with Rayne.

Unfortunately we are stuck with him for several years and there is no viable option behind him.
He is a good QB, with the likes of Cousins, better than Wentz,JimmyG, Goff. Not a franchise guy. Still the best qb in our division, but he will never be Mahomes, Watson, Burrow, Herbert, Brady, Wilson, Rodgers ( not in any order)

LOL......Not a franchise guy? Thanks for the laugh on that one. Mahomes, Brady, Rogers he will certainly never be. But at the moment he is every bit in the conversation with all the rest of those guys.

Increase his winning percentage? QB's dont have winning percentages. It takes a team to win or lose games.

Thats simply not how the game works. In order to beat the best teams in the NFL, you have to have a great team to do it. There are a few elites that have more success then others, but those are some of the best of all time.

Its this common misconception that fuels QB hate and love.

You are also very hard pressed to find a long list QB's in NFL history that has a winning record against winning teams.
