What opportunities will we have at 19

I think 5 QB's will be drafted with the 1st 5 picks If only 4 are we should draft the leftover at 19 because we need him

That has to be a typo, right? 5 QBs with the first 5 picks? I see 4 (Darnold, Rosen, Allen, Mayfield) going in the top 10, and the 5th (Jackson) gone by 15. Shoot, there’s an outside chance we’ll even see Mason Rudolph (Ok. St. ) taken before #19.

Regardless, in no way do we take a QB in the 1st. This year especially, our 1st rounder needs to walk in and start from day one. If Dak falters, address the QB position next year.

We aren't cutting Rush. (no way we are keeping 3 qbs on the roster) And what has Jackson proven that he deserves to start over Dak?
You wouldn’t cut Cooper Rush for a 1st round QB?

If Dallas trades back in the first, they need to stay in the first. The four year rookie deal with a 5th year option is a great value.

Guard and OT can be had at 19 and I think that several will grade out as a 1st. Landry, Alexander, Daniels, Wynn, Hernandez and Vander Esch should each grade out as 1st rounders.

Payne, McGlinchey and Vea probably will grade out as 2nd round but each of those players can be day one starters and are significant improvement.

  • Harold Landry, DE
  • Jaire Alexander, CB
  • James Daniels, OC, Iowa
  • Isaiah Wynn, OG, Georgia
  • Will Hernandez, OG
  • Leighton Vander Esch, LB

  • Mike McGlinchey, OT, Notre Dame
  • Da’Ron Payne, DT, Alabama
  • Vita Vea, DT, Washington

The Boys are sitting in a great spot in this draft with a possible 5 QBs being taken in front of them. I am expecting that the top two receivers will be gone as well. The team's first pick will be a stud. Give me any player from the above list and I will be all smiles.
I like Vea, any player that can grab the center in one arm and the guard in the other and snag the running back on the way to the QB then throws them all on the QB for a sack is my guy!:omg:

:laugh:Yeah, LVE grades out as a first round pick but Vea does not

Lamar Jackson if he is there at 19 gotta take him And Dak becomes a backup
100% Positive if there we will pass on Lamar Jackson. There is no way they take a QB because they think Dak is their man.

For me OL or DT at #19...really Vita Vea...for me. I want our Defense stronger up the middle in the front 7. Honestly some will say he' a box Safety but here is my first 3 picks for the Cowboys.

Vea DT Washington
Harrison S. Alabama
Jewel. LB. Iowa

Also I'm thinking all 3 will be in board when we pick unless Jewel goes early 3rd

Should be plenty of quality at 19. Hoping for a wise pick. We need a starter at position of need. LB or DT.

That's a bunch of BS but whatever. Luckily there is zero percent chance the Cowboys are interested in a QB that early.

There is NO WAY he could beat out Dak. None. BTW there is also no chance Jackson is or will be Aaron Rogers good.

I would pass on any ol in the first round, have to find starters later in the draft. Only way I would consider it is in a trade back scenerio that yields an extra 2nd, 3rd or some combo of premium picks.

If Jackson were still there at #19, I would have already floated it out there that we would rake him. Then whomever REALLY wants him can trade ahead of Dallas and ensure that 5 QBs are taken before our pick, meaning we plan for 14 non-QB names

I've got a feeling we will not pick at 19, we will move up.. I think the lure of making a big splash in front of the home crowd is too hard for Booger to pass up. As to what player, that depends on what they do with Dez.

I dunno Gip, that pick would send the message to Dak and the fans that they're not as sold on him as they've said they are. But if they wanted to put more pressure on him this season, that would do it.

I don't see them taking Jackson in the 1st and if they were to take a QB in the 1st, I think they would move up for a more accurate Aikman like clone like Allen or Rosen. Jackson is not anymore more accurate or consistent than Dak is.

i love this board. not a shot at the op. if this team had the second round pick, most posters would say everyone is gone.

The year Ware was drafted, everyone was gone before he was picked. Idk how we even got Ware, every player was gone.

Sometimes players are going to fall. yes its easier to pick the first few picks as teams are so desperate they dont even hide it, but it will cause other players to fall.

Good point
One thing I do know
If we pick at 19 then only 18 players will be gone
Assuming my math is correct lol

It’s a great time to remind ourselves how important Will McClay is to the success of our drafts. His scouting and evaluation of the talent in each draft is critical to our success.

One thing that good scouting provides is an accurate assessment of talent value. There may only be 10-20 guys in this draft that actually grade out as a first round talent. It’s McClay’s job to accurately assess whether it’s good value at 19 to take someone available or to draft downward to gain more value. Or to assess if a guy is so good and so helpful to our needs, it’s worth trying to move up and grab him.

How bad do we need McClay’s scouting? Jerry doesn’t know jack about most players- he’s too busy negotiating the next tractor pull at the “stayjum” or too busy trying to win the Forbes championship as most profitable franchise. Stephen is better but he is busy trying to keep Dad from drafting the next Johnny Football and trying to keep this franchise from cap hell.

In answer to the original question, “What opportunities will we have at 19?” IMO, Will McClay probably holds the keys to our success with whatever opportunities we may be presented.
