My split is "whatever it takes to win." The games never follow a script so whatever goals you start out with are generally just a suggestion. The key is being able to do both well and being able to execute either when you have to. It has been shown that you can't win in this league being too far out of whack in either direction. Any adherence to hard and fast numbers is a fool's errand. Play to win, not to hit boxes on a checklist.

Agree. There isn't a quarterback in the world that survives a crippled OL. Mahomes was the perfect example in that pathetic performance in the Chiefs last SB. Good offensive lines make a quarterback!

Agreed it’s very difficult for offences to function without a decent OL. Bengals were the exception not the norm.
Glad Connor is gone but still very worried about Biadaz. Hoping for Tretter or the UDFA to emerge possibly. Might be wishful thinking tho.

60% pass and 40% run would be ideal, I think, but the real issue is having a higher percentage of successful run attempts and a much lower percentage of getting stuffed.

I don't really have a set percentage anymore. Run effectively and you'll set yourself up to pass effectively. Pass effectively and you'll set yourself up to run effectively, although if you can pass effectively you probably won't opt to run in it's place until you're well into the 2nd half.

Carries without yards are just as worthless as pass attempts without yards.

Personally, I would rather be in control of the clock and run-at-will. The other team cannot score if you are in control of the ball, and when it comes down to needing that long 1-yard, running wins. You cannot guarantee the clock keeps moving while passing. You can almost guarantee it does while running. Absent a penalty or timeout by the opponent (which is not bad) the clock will run.

Leads might be built by passing, but they are most certainly kept by running.

The Cowboys have their most successful seasons when they run the ball. Being a passing league is irrelevant.
The old formula of pounding defenses into submission,eating up the clock and keeping the other teams offense on the sideline is still the way to go.

As a general rule I would say about 60% passing within the flow of the game. If you are playing a much better opponent I would lean more into the run more and vice versa if you are playing a worse team. And even that can change based on matchups. That will even out to about 50-50 or even favor runs more if you have to run out the clock at the end. I often see stats about teams winning more when their run carries are high but without more specific metrics that doesn't really say much. Due to the rules of football teams run the ball when they are in the league because it keeps the clock moving. So they aren't necessarily winning because they ran the ball. Instead they are running the ball because they are winning.

It could also be the reason for those leads too and not having to play catch up so much because we decided to start the game by passing it more than running it.

Football 101...

It's hard to establish the run early in the game, because the defense is still fresh. Moore is your play caller...as soon as he sees the run being stuffed, early in the game, he's going to go away from it. Run on first down, run on second down, then try to pass it on third down, is exactly what Moore does to get this team in trouble. And people wonder why our offense starts off slow. We pick up one first down in three possession and panic.

It's a literally proven fact that, with Dak, if you run more than you pass your chance at winning is much higher.

The Rams passed 59.2% of the time. The Bengals passed 56% of the time. The Packers passed 57.1% of the time. The Chiefs passed 61% of the time. The Bucs passed 65.5% of the time. The Bills passed 58.7% of the time.

The most "balanced" division winner was the Titans who passed 49.2% of the time. Then again....could you blame them?

Unless your quarterback happens to be Tom Brady, winning teams typically average a ratio of 58/42.

The Cowboys passed 57.7% of the time so they are right in line with most other division winners.

Of course, results differ.

I like a good run game but it seems Moore’s favorite run play is handoff to RB standing still beside QB going directly behind the center.
