What role will Kevin Burnett play next year?

We probably shouldn't count on him to have that big of an impact next year considering he did nothing this year, but what do you think Bill has planned for Burnett. At 6'2 240 I think he's big enough to play mlb for us. The only drawback to that is we may need a another big NT to split time with Ferguson, assuming we cut Glover. I believe he could be a monster sideline to sideline player with his speed, and he's big/quick enough to cover TE's as well as backs.

I think his future is as that "bubble" LB that Bill talked about before. I think he ended up having to do too many things this season, and his health gane him problems. If he gets well, he should be an asset.

My initial feeling is that Burnett will be moved inside and we'll probably draft an OLB to complement Ware.

Plus, if we re-sign Fujita (sp?), and draft an OLB, the rookie can be eased in during the course of the season as Fujita and the rookie can initially share time.

That's what I'm hoping, I really want Manny Lawson (in my madden 06' franchise back in september I drafted this guy but the damn game would't let me switch him to LB), but I think we need an OT more.

I think you're right on the money with this. Fowler looks to be the ILB main backup. James will likely call the plays. Fujita on the Strong side and possibly Thornton on the Weak Side as backup. Shanle could stick if we keep 8.

I'm guessing in FA we pick up a veteran RT, a PK, and a FS. Plus, we'll probably pick up 1-2 other "cheap" options later on during FA.

If we re-sign Fujita and Gurode, I think our main holes will be OLB (to more effectively run the 3-4) and WR (to help Glenn stretch the field). These concerns can be addressed in the Draft.

We'll probably draft a another Guard and/or Center as well to improve our OL and hopefully one NT to rotate with Fergy.

I think he moves inside next to James, and we get another lawson/carpenter/wimbley type outside.

Thats a little harsh. The dude had legitimate injuries. I don't think he will contribute next year though. It takes about six months to be able to recover from an ACL injury and another six months to get your burst back. Edgerrin James needed a year to recover from his ACL injury.Burnett is not a turd, but he probably will not be able to contribute next year. Maybe Fujita can play ILB?

I'll just add that I really hope that we would pick up a big NT in FA to complement Fergy, but I just don't see JJ/BP dishing out the big bucks for yet another NT (after paying Fergy big $$$$$ last year).

The NT will have to be found in the draft, IMO. (But I hope I'm wrong and we do dish out the money . . . .)

I think Burnett should go ahead and move inside. I had him listed at 6'3 240. And he'll probably be closer to 250 by training camp.

We will know everything we need to about Burnett (in Parcells eyes) after draft day.

If he drafts an ILB or OLB that can play inside like Carpenter, then Burnett will be a back up.

You can move DE to OLB, if you have enough DE for roster breakdown. If he was say your RDE and you had only one more, simply sign a free agent RDE and then move Lawson to OLB. Don't sign a LDE though, you have to have atleast 2 of each, which is why if you only have 2 they wont let you move one to another position.

Having met the guy when he played here in TN, he looks a little thinner than 240 to me. He definately wouldn't hold up @ MLB. He's one of those guys who is cut to ribbons...lot of muscle on a medium frame. Don't get em wrong, he can do a great job when he's healthy, but I can't see him lasting long in the middle. Once healthy, he'll give plenty to smile about...just have to keep him on the field.

if Burnett can't hold up in the middle, Parcells won't consider the thought of him being one of his MLBs, so that speaks for itself that Parcells is thinking about using him as a MLB
