I pay off production and if I can get similar numbers for half the price, I go with the so-called "overacheiver". Also, it is not like these guys are rookies and we are just guessing how good they will be. We have 4-5 years of actual stats in comparable systems in which to make a judgement.

Thus, unless you feel that Canty is going to be twice as good as Igor in the future, why the hell would you pay twice the price???

The feeling on Canty was that a) he could be a better player - elite even and b) he could be effective in either a 3-4 or 4-3.

So you've got a guy who is seen as having more "upside" - I expect several teams might even think that their coaches would get more out of him. You've also got more teams interested because the 4-3 teams like him too.

I predict those that hate Spears will learn to hate Igor

They are very similar players, and it makes me laugh to read the Spears hate on this board, but all the excitement about Igor

Spears earned his hate here with his mouth. The complaining about BP holding him back, not being used right. He has developed into a solid player and also a leader and I applaud him for it.

He isn't a bust by any stretch but he certainly has not given us what you want from a first round pick.

Canty is NOT that good. He played next to Ratliff and Ware and was constantly blown off the ball and very rarely got any pressure on the QB. I wanna see a stat that tallies how many times Canty got blown off the ball... Our interior run defense was not as good as it could be...

Come on, he wasn't THAT bad.

this team does not need any more big ego superstars anyways. we need more players like brooking and olshansky. This team has enough superstars, even though the 3-4 DE position is not a position of glamour.
I think in the long run, people aren't going to be happy with that. Case and point - Marcus Spears.

Edit: oops, hoovie beat me to it

He was absolutely dreaful the first half of the year and he only came on when Wade took over the defense, just like everybody else. They were running basic sets when Stewart was the DC and Canty couldn't beat his man for the life of him.
