What Stops Players From Dictating Where They Go?

Maybe not phrased so well but what if there is a UFA who wants to go to a team that is unable to sign him?

How would that work? Could he hold out and basically bypass the "lose 1, gain 1"?

I'd imagine that FAs are all fair game when the season starts. Incredibly stupid yes but could it happen?

Yes, it could happen, as long as the player's original team didn't offer him a "June 1 tender." If not, then he is free to sign with any team -- including a "Final Eight" team -- after July 15 or the first day of the first training camp to open, whichever comes later.

Thanks. I think it will be interesting to see what happens if there are a few players who care about winning and want to play on a competitive team. Probably nothing but ya never know.
