What they were saying (Broncos fans game thread)

I keep going back to last years pre-season. Raiders 4-0, Colts 0-4. Know what I mean?

Look WITHIN the game-the Raiders O blew chunks in those games(and they pretty much did the entire season), and Peyton, Freeney, et al were their usual solid self in the (few)series he played in.

BTW-we played with backup WRs, OTs, and CB #1 throughout the first half against a team that played ALL of their starters-so what does that say?

The records dont matter since preseason games are won and lost by scrubs who wont make the team, Last season in preseason the Raiders D looked good and their O looked like crap, regular season rolled around and their D finished 4th and their O sucked.

Indy never plays manning or Harrison more than 2 series so of course Sorgi sucks and loses their games

Just watch the starters to see how the season will fare, because your starters cant suck and then turn it on later when the season begins

As of right now we played Colts and Broncos and our starters are winning
30-9

But go back to those games and look at the stats while the starters were in. The Colts dominated with their starters in. People are excited tonight about what our starters did. It doesn't matter what happens in the 2nd half, so long as our starters dominate.

I hear you OGT. I just want to see it when the Giants come to town. I am as excited about Cowboy football right now as I have been in a while. This team has that certain hunger. You cant coach that. The players have to believe and these guys seem to be on that path. I just saw some highlights and the whole team looked like they were playing their butts off.

Yeah, but consider how the starters played in those....

Oh...what's that?

Are you telling me that you've heard this before...like 4 times already?

Oh, sorry.:)

Sorry. I normally read an entire thread before responding, but I've seen this Raiders/Colts line so many times it bugs me too much.

i'm all for optimism but... this is all smoke and mirrors. even phillips's aggressive scheme tonight is but a smidge in the playbook. and it goes for both teams. the Broncos are gonna be a tough tough team in the reg season, and I think our Cowboys may be vying for a conference championship. but to think that Dallas would be able to hold down a talented outfit and playcaller like Shanahan to those kind of numbers is a complete fallacy.

I think what you want to do in the preseason is 1) build chemistry 2)evaluate talent and 3) demonstrate ability.

The Cowboys are three for three, with one extra "arrow up" caveat. we are stopping the run. if nothing else, defensing the run MUST be a "given", and this comes with good technique, timing, purpose, and tackling.

Everyone should be happy because of all things preseason I've always felt that run defense carries over to the rest of the season. we were good last year vs run, this year we could be special, and if we make people pass against us... Phillips' blitz schemes could make for some overwheling problems for opposing offenses.

I wasn't criticizing or singling you out. I apologize if it seemed that way. I just found it amusing that three or four consecutive posters all responded with variations on the same comment. Of course, it was precisely what I was thinking. :p:

The final score means nothing, but it does mean something that they couldn't run the ball on us. AT ALL.

That's not exotic scheme, gameplanning, or anything else. That's just us whipping them. Denver runs the ball on everyone, but not on us tonight.

Preseason or not, I guarantee you Shanahan didn't want us in his backfield all night.

We are always wise to caution our success during the preseason but I like what Romo pointed out. He stated that if you can't get it right in pre-season it would be even less likely you wouldn't get it right in the regular season.

Alot of them are blaming Wade for "gameplanning" this like a regular season game.

:lmao:
There's no doubt they were as vanilla as can be and we weren't and their offensive tackle situation is so bad they were wishing they had Jacob Rodgers healthy. So take this game for what it's worth, a glorified practice. The defense sure is more fun to watch though.

Now I didn't watch the game, but will later this afternoon, but from what I heard listening to it,besides the reverse to Owens early,Jason Garrett didn't spill his whole bag of tricks last night,as some claim. I think what he did "spill' was the fact that what this team will be this year, more than anything,is BALANCED!!! I believe at one point late in the game, the # of runs and # of passes was dead even. Let 'em learn from that!

I hope the Broncos fans (and esp Cowboys fans) put that performance in perspective. Broncos looked tired, beat up, and uninspired. Can't quantify anything, really.

in the defense of the broncos, they were missing their key oline guys. also if shanahan wanted, which he kind of did at one point, they could've marched down the field with brandon marshall on aaron glenn all day long.

also, their cornerbacks handled the backup wrs. only with the crossing routes and slips by cbs did guys get open.

the game was won in the trenches, so that we can be happy about. the oline looks good, granted not too many stunts being run, but leonard davis is abusing people. he messed up once, missing a lb in space, but place a dlineman in front of him and Bigg will win that battle. the dline was getting penetration and the lbs and safeties were making good tackles. they just need to work on the screen recognition, as always.

also, i didn't think the cowboys got that much pressure. watching the chargers against the rams, those guys were ferocious. the cowboys were able to collapse the pocket, but didn't have any guys running free to the qb

Its a biblical fan law that if you lose a preseason game badly, it's because the other team 'game planned' you. That's right up there with saying your team 'played not to lose' when your team loses a close game. If you can't follow those two rules, you might as well just turn in your internet messageboard football fan card membership.
